The Unlit House

Atlas

"Even when the lights are on... they're off." The Unlit House is the first chapter of the Atlas Universe — a serialized work of audio autofiction from a voice known only as Atlas. No name. No face. No interviews. Just the truth, narrated in the dark. Every episode opens with the same line: "The following is a work of fiction inspired by real events. Names and details have been changed." You'll hear it every time. And every time, you'll know it isn't fiction at all. This season follows Atlas through the years he spent in uniform — building affirmations he didn't believe yet, surviving relationships that taught him who he was by showing him who he wasn't, and finally understanding the house he grew up in. The lights were always on. Nobody ever said why they were never lit. Raw. Confessional. Honest in a way performance never allows. Somewhere in the dark, Atlas is still writing. New episodes every Monday — until the season ends. Early access on Patreon.

    "The Cookout"

Send us Fan Mail He had never been to a cookout. Outcasts don't get you're coming. They get you can come if you want. This week Atlas finally says the name y'all have been waiting on. Carl is the man somebody put him in a room with and told him they belonged to each other now. He drove Atlas to work after the repo. He signed him up for the class Atlas would never have signed up for himself. He waited at the door after every audition he wasn't allowed into. Then it gets uncomfortable. There's a notebook entry that says I don't like liars. There's a second phone. There's a family table, a story he never should have started, and a cough. He accepted me before he trusted me. "The Cookout" is about a radio login, a banana, a horse that wasn't blind, a plate of greens that wasn't vegetarian, and a gas station run. It's also about a verse he sent to a man he'd known for one week, with the name of this house buried in it, and a brother he never got to meet. Stay through the end. Then go back and start over. Content note: this episode includes discussion of pregnancy loss. The following is a work of fiction inspired by real events. Names and details have been changed. 🎧 Listen everywhere: Buzzsprout: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2626717/episodes/19450642Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/033ETOWLYDybLb2UifZffF?si=oqDGf1Y1T8SovQTe0oOyEQYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNmNpyE5F6VC1XVBYduHmzQ🔑 Early access + bonus content on Patreon ($3 Hallway / $7 Bedroom / $15 Basement): https://patreon.com/AtlasUniverse?utm_medium=unknown&utm_source=join_link&utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator&utm_content=copyLink © 2026 Atlas

    "The Wisest in the Room"

Send us Fan Mail Episode 10 — "The Wisest in the Room" Last week this episode was called something else. Atlas changed the title before he finished writing it, and he explains why in the first ninety seconds — because he'd been using the wrong word for a woman for twenty years, and he was about to put that word on the door of her own episode. Smart people know it all. Wise people are still trying to. Grey is the only person in Atlas's life he never lied to, never tested, and never walked away from. This week he finally says why — and the answer reaches back and rewrites the breakup that started this entire series. Two women told him the truth about the house he was living in. Thirty days apart. December 2019. He listened to neither one until January. There's also something in this hour he hasn't told you in nine weeks of doing this. Once you hear it, you'll hear every episode before this one differently. Including this one. New this week: the show now opens on the porch. Gratitude, shout-outs, and the one light in this house that's on for a reason. Content note: frank discussion of addiction, financial abuse, and infidelity. The following is a work of fiction inspired by real events. Names and details have been changed. "The Test"

Send us Fan Mail Last week I told you this one was called "The Plane Ticket." It isn't. Players f**k up too. I've been calling this story by that name for four years. In my head. To myself. It's the shorthand I use when somebody asks about her and I don't want to answer — because if it's about a plane ticket, then it's about money, and if it's about money, then it's about two stubborn people, and if it's about two stubborn people, then it's nobody's fault. Nothing in my life has ever been nobody's fault. Nine doors in, here's where we are. A mother handed her son the truth about his father in December of 2019, along with a sentence women had said to her for fifty years: your son looks just like his daddy. She told him it was a curse. Then a phone did nothing at midnight and something worse at one. Then a saint found him in a driveway in August and told him his spirit was bad and stayed anyway. Then three words he said to a lot of women in a very short amount of time — true exactly once, counterfeit every time after. And here's what you walked past: that New Year's Eve, he wasn't home. He was at her place. She made him a plate and put on a movie and never asked him one question, because she'd known him since before he had a jawline. Tonight is her whole story. It starts with a phone call he made at nine years old, to a house he was never allowed inside, and a man who asked him two words he couldn't answer right. It runs through a homecoming with time hacks, a graduation photo that sent a grown man back to school, a plane ticket nobody bought, and a motorcycle he didn't own yet. And it ends across a breakfast table with the only man alive qualified to tell him whether the curse was real. You don't get strikes in a relationship. You get strikes in a test. Contains discussion of family illness. "The Saint"

Send us Fan Mail The following is a work of fiction inspired by real events. Names and details have been changed. My mother thanks her. I never knew why. August 2020. Atlas is two men in one body — the quiet one everybody at work thinks is harmless, and the one who drives across state lines after dark and calls it a good time. Then four words come across his screen from a woman he hasn't spoken to in years. Atlas! I found you. She had to go through people she doesn't even talk to in order to find a man who had arranged not to be found. And when she got him, she didn't ask where he'd been. She asked one question about a pair of headphones, and then said the sentence he's been carrying ever since. This one goes back to a driveway in the middle of God's great earth, a set of keys handed to the worst version of a man, and a friendship that has never once crossed a line in all these layers of years. It's the only episode with a name on the front of it. You'll figure out whose about ninety seconds before he finishes saying it. Three's company. Two's the truth. 🎧 Listen everywhere: Buzzsprout: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2626717/episodes/19450642 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/033ETOWLYDybLb2UifZffF?si=oqDGf1Y1T8SovQTe0oOyEQ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNmNpyE5F6VC1XVBYduHmzQ 🔑 Early access + bonus content on Patreon ($3 Hallway / $7 Bedroom / $15 Basement): https://patreon.com/AtlasUniverse?utm_medium=unknown&utm_source=join_link&utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator&utm_content=copyLink New episodes drop weekly during each season. "Better Now" — (Return Edition)

Send us Fan Mail Episode 6 — “Better Now” The following is a work of fiction inspired by real events. Names and details have been changed. Before Atlas became the man grading women in a notebook, he was the man whose entire life belonged to one. She paid the bills. Held the passwords. Controlled the card. Kept his lights on—and made sure he never forgot what he owed. Then, in a sandwich line on the other side of the world, a song told him the relationship was already over. He ignored it for two more years. Nine-hour drives. A bag purchased twice. A watch that nearly emptied his savings. A friendship sacrificed defending the woman who controlled him. And finally, New Year’s Eve: Atlas sitting in another woman’s bedroom, staring at a silent phone and waiting for a tradition seven years old. The call eventually came. It lasted forty seconds. “Better Now” is about the difference between being free and actually being healed—and how escaping a transaction does not stop you from becoming one. She taught Atlas that love was a ledger. He spent the next year proving he had learned. 🎧 Listen to The Unlit House: Buzzsprout: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2626717/episodes/19450642 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/033ETOWLYDybLb2UifZffF?si=oqDGf1Y1T8SovQTe0oOyEQ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNmNpyE5F6VC1XVBYduHmzQ 🔑 Early access and bonus content on Patreon: https://patreon.com/AtlasUniverse?utm_medium=unknown&utm_source=join_link&utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator&utm_content=copyLink New episodes drop weekly during each season.
