Now, you might smile and think back to the 80s, maybe you confuse Living Color with Milli Vanilli or the pop spectacles of that decade—but when you strip away the music videos, what Living Color was talking about wasn't just entertainment. It was psychology. It was history. And more importantly, it is the exact water we are swimming in right now in the mid-2020s. Look around you. Everywhere we turn today, we are being sold personalities rather than principles. We are being asked to buy into individuals—charismatic leaders, social media gurus, financial saviors, political figures, fitness influencers—who look the part, sound the part, and deliver fiery, emotionally charged rhetoric. They speak with supreme confidence. They promise instant fixes. They tell us that they alone have the simple answer to the complex, grinding pains we are feeling every day. Inflation, the cost of living, uncertainty about the future, fatigue from endless cultural friction—when people feel pain, human nature looks for a savior. We look for a strong hand, a charismatic voice, someone who says, ‘Follow me, and I will fix it all by tomorrow.’ That is the Cult of Personality.
