Built In Real Time

Jason Perry & Jesse Vargas

Built In Real Time is a podcast about getting better out loud. Jesse and Jason are two friends, two Marine vets, and two respiratory therapists who got tired of waiting for the right time to start, so we just started. We talk about the real stuff. Leadership, fear, faith, being a father, staying disciplined, and actually growing. Not from the top looking down, but from right in the middle of it, still figuring it out like everybody else. Jesse works the ER and ICU and builds on the side. Jason is out there starting his own painting business from the ground up. Same fight, different lanes, both of us building something real while the tape rolls. This is the new frontier. Walking into the unknown on purpose, getting uncomfortable, and becoming the men, fathers, and leaders we are supposed to be. No script. No filter. Just the work.Pull up a seat. Let's build.

AI Clones and Orange Flyers | Putting the Work Out There

Jesse is building an AI version of himself. Jason is handing out bright orange flyers. Both are figuring out how to get their work in front of people. In Episode 12 of Built In Real Time, Jesse shares his plans to turn RESPTAC educational articles into short videos using an AI avatar, and why being honest about the technology matters. Jason catches up on the painting business, from new shirts and business cards to passing out flyers and reconnecting with a contractor who might send work his way. The conversation moves into affiliate links, building relationships, and the values behind the businesses. Jason shares the personal code he has written down, and the two work through what integrity means when the easy choice and the right choice pull in different directions. They also talk about identity beyond a job title, being useful to others, the example they set for their kids, and preparing for a Lost Coast backpacking trip that gives them something to look forward to outside of work. The challenge this week: write down what matters to you, pick a direction, and take a step you can follow through on. Make Room to Build | AI, Business, and Finding Balance

Four years of paperwork, finally organized in an hour. But what do you do with the time you get back? In this episode of Built In Real Time, Jason and Jesse talk about using AI to take work off their plates and making sure the work they take on actually moves them forward. Jason shares how he used Codex to organize homeschool records and build a painting estimator, then breaks down the next steps for his painting business: systems, marketing, hiring, and earning customer trust. Jesse catches up on school, his Respiratory Tactician app, and the prototype he has been putting off because the next step feels intimidating. They also get into training as a mental reset, the courage to knock on doors, encouraging their kids to build something of their own, and staying present with the people around them when a project consumes their attention. Better tools can save time. Building a life still takes intention. Why We're Here

There's gotta be more to this than getting up, punching the clock, barely making it, and watching the rest go to taxes. That's why we're here. This is episode one. We introduce ourselves, lay out the mission, and get into why we're doing this in the first place. A little about us. We're both Marine vets and respiratory therapists with about 14 years in. Jesse did two combat tours in Ramadi, came home, washed dishes during the 2008 crash, and worked his way into respiratory therapy. Now he's building Respiratory Tactician, a bedside app for clinicians that he taught himself to make. Jason did his tours, ran his dad's painting company, and is standing up his own painting business from the ground up. This show is for the people who want more than the daily grind. The ones putting in work in silence, fighting doubt and setbacks, betting on themselves when nobody else will. We're not at the top of the ladder. We're in the trenches with you, documenting the climb in real time. What we get into: Our story, the Marine Corps, and how we both landed in respiratory therapy The BRT mission and who this show is really for Jason on starting a painting business: licensing, tools, and what it actually costs to begin Jesse on building the Respiratory Tactician app from zero coding experience Why most people quit when it gets hard, and how to keep going Figure out your vision and bet on yourself Built In Real Time. Building the vision, taking the hits, and documenting the climb. If this one hit home, follow the show, leave a review, and send it to someone who's in the fight too.
