    Episode 048 | August 21, 2026 – D.B. Nyce Became a Brand

D.B. Nyce had been his radio name for years. But during his time in Florida, D.B. started realizing something: It couldn't just be a name anymore. Working at Fly 92.1 introduced D.B. to the nightclub DJ scene around Fort Walton Beach and Destin—and some of the people who dominated it. DJ Sudario. DJ Boom. And DJ Doc Roc. These guys didn't simply play music. They understood how to control a room, build a following and create a reputation strong enough that people would show up because their name was on the marquee. And watching one of them taught D.B. a lesson he still carries with him twenty years later. On this episode: The difference between being a radio personality and being a nightclub DJ. How Sudario introduced D.B. to Florida's club DJ scene. Meeting DJ Boom and DJ Doc Roc. Why certain DJs could practically guarantee a packed nightclub. What D.B. learned watching them control a crowd. Working live broadcasts from Florida clubs. Why DJ Doc Roc was extremely selective about the projects carrying his name. The Saturday radio show that put D.B. and Doc Roc together. Why younger D.B. initially worried that having strict standards could hurt future opportunities. The moment D.B. began seeing those standards completely differently. Why protecting your reputation can matter more than a quick payday. And how that lesson still influences the way D.B. runs Video Music Bingo today. Twenty years ago, D.B. learned something he still believes: Your name isn't just what people call you. It's what people expect from you. And once people associate your name with a certain standard, protecting that reputation becomes part of the job. The Radio Journey continues next episode. Episode 047 | August 20, 2026 – I Lived on a Bus for a Week

By this point in D.B.'s Florida radio career, Fly 92.1 was starting to feel like home—and one of the people helping make it that way was DJ Sudario. Together, D.B. and Sudario hosted the All Request Drive at Five, throwing the normal playlist rules aside and letting listeners help decide what came out of the speakers. But one of their biggest adventures together wouldn't happen inside the radio studio. D.B. was about to live on a bus for an entire week. Years earlier, while interning at Q102 in Philadelphia, D.B. had watched the station pull off a massive holiday toy drive. When Fly 92.1 needed a big Christmas promotion of its own, D.B. remembered the idea. Stuff-A-Bus was coming to Florida. On this episode: Why D.B. and DJ Sudario became such a strong team on the radio. The freedom—and chaos—of the All Request Drive at Five. How D.B.'s internship at Q102 continued influencing his career years later. Where D.B. first encountered the Stuff-A-Bus concept. Convincing management to bring the promotion to Fly 92.1. Finding a bus, location, food partners and everything else needed to make it work. Broadcasting live while collecting thousands of toys for local children. Why Sudario became one of the people D.B. relied on most during the event. How local schools, businesses and listeners rallied around the promotion. Why Stuff-A-Bus became a promotion D.B. would take with him to other radio stations. And the lesson that completely changed the way D.B. looked at his job. D.B. went into radio because he wanted to entertain people. Stuff-A-Bus helped teach him that being a local radio personality meant something more. You don't just broadcast to a community. You become part of it. The Radio Journey continues tomorrow. Start from the beginning with Episode 030 and catch every chapter at dbnycepodcast.com.

    Episode 046 | August 19, 2026 – I Finally Had My People

For most of D.B.'s life, he'd never really been alone. Growing up in New Jersey meant being surrounded by family, lifelong friends and familiar places. If things got tough, there was always somewhere—or someone—to turn to. Then radio changed everything. Bangor. Biloxi. Florida. New cities. New jobs. New people. And for the first time in his life, D.B. had to figure out how to build a life without the safety net he'd always known. Then an old friend came back into the story. Matt was moving to Florida. On this episode: Why a conversation with D.B.'s son made him look differently at this chapter of his own life. What it was really like moving hundreds of miles away from everything familiar. Why D.B. suddenly realized how much he'd taken his lifelong support system for granted. How D.B. helped Matt get an opportunity at the Florida radio station. Matt packing up and moving from Pennsylvania to Florida. Why a part-time radio job wasn't going to stop Matt from chasing the dream. The second job that helped him make it work. How an unfortunate change at the station eventually gave Matt his first full-time radio opportunity. Why having Matt in Florida gave D.B. a piece of home again. The group of friends that made Florida start feeling permanent. Golly—the stray cat who somehow became part of the radio station family. And Jimmy—the Siamese cat loud enough to convince D.B. there was a crying baby in his apartment. For the first time since leaving home to chase radio, D.B. wasn't just living somewhere new. He was building a home. And for a while, he honestly believed this might be the life he'd keep forever. The Radio Journey continues tomorrow. Episode 045 | August 18, 2026 – This Was Our Radio Station Now

D.B. finally has a home in Florida, a routine and a job he loves. Now it's time to meet some of the people who would turn Fly 92.1 from another stop in his radio career into one of its most memorable chapters. There was Booker—the prankster who learned the hard way that when D.B. says not to mess with him, he probably means it. There was DJ Sudario—a local club DJ who quickly became one of D.B.'s favorite people to work and hang out with. And then there was Drex. Young, smart and ambitious, Drex understood the radio business well beyond his years. When a sudden management change put him in charge of Fly 92.1, he and D.B. realized they shared the same goal: Make this their station. On this episode: Meeting the cast of characters at D.B.'s new Florida radio station. Why Booker probably should have listened when D.B. warned him not to mess with him. The night D.B. filled an entire office with hundreds of balloons. Remembering some of the coworkers who made Florida special. Why D.B. and DJ Sudario immediately clicked. Meeting Drex, one of the people who would become important to D.B.'s Florida years. How Drex became program director of Fly 92.1. Why D.B. respected working for a boss who challenged his ideas instead of simply shutting them down. Rebuilding the identity of a radio station whose original air staff had disappeared. D.B.'s move from nights to afternoon drive. The All Request Drive at Five with DJ Sudario . And the lineup that made Fly 92.1 finally feel like their station. Things at Fly were starting to take off. Unfortunately, things inside the building were also starting to change. And D.B. was about to learn that succeeding in radio sometimes required understanding a game he didn't even know he was playing. The Radio Journey continues tomorrow. Episode 044 | August 17, 2026 – Because She Couldn't Find Gas

Sometimes the smallest moments change the entire direction of your life. D.B. has officially left Biloxi and started the next chapter of his radio career in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. But there's still one major problem: He has nowhere to live. And he's not alone. In this episode, D.B. talks about something he's struggled with while telling this part of his Radio Journey—how to tell the story of these years without leaving out someone who played an important role in them: his son's mother. When D.B. accepted the Florida job, their relationship was still new. The original plan was to try long distance while she returned to Biloxi. Then something happened. She couldn't find gas. What seemed like a temporary problem during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina became one of those small moments D.B. can now look back on and wonder how differently his life might have unfolded if things had gone another way. On this episode: Why D.B. has struggled with talking about his son's mother during this part of the story. Looking back at how career-driven D.B. was in his twenties. The decision they faced when another radio opportunity arrived. Why they originally planned to try a long-distance relationship. The post-Katrina gas shortage that unexpectedly changed those plans. The song D.B. remembers playing during that moment. How one small decision became part of a chain of events that eventually led to D.B. becoming a dad. The increasingly troubling behavior of D.B.'s new program director. Why Fly 92.1 kept mysteriously going silent after midnight. The night things finally went too far. And how someone else's sudden departure unexpectedly gave D.B. the thing he'd desperately been searching for—a home. Sometimes life doesn't change because of one giant decision. Sometimes you just can't find a gas station. Next episode: Life in Florida starts feeling like a permanent vacation—and an old friend named Matt comes back into the story.
