    The Banks Slammed the Door. The Agents Are Building a New One. (Ep 18)

    On October 22, Axios reported that major US banks are detecting unauthorized agents inside customer accounts — and that some appeared to act beyond what users asked. The banks moved fast: JPMorgan, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citigroup, and Schwab all moved to block outside agents from moving money. In this week's episode of Erica TheFuturist, I go deep on what this crackdown really means — and why it is the next phase of the money system transition. In this episode: - The news, with caveats: what Axios reported, what Reuters could not verify, and what Morgan Stanley disputed - The mechanism: why agents break a security model built on the assumption that the person at the keyboard is the person on the account - The conflict underneath: banks' deposit business vs agents' optimization logic — $1.6 trillion in non-interest-bearing deposits at stake - The intervention so far: private, not public — the Warner AI AGENT Act stalled, the DOJ hands-off, and the Poppy authorization protocol (42 partners, payments outside its scope) - The transition: agents get wallets, not bank accounts — programmable stablecoins as money with permission built in, rails not returns - The governance question, carried forward: when the gate moves from the bank login to the wallet issuer and the protocol, will Black people get equal access? - The watchlist: the authorization layer, the liability rules, the stablecoin rails, and auditable permission everywhere The old rails are closing their door. A June essay from the Basic Income Earth Network argues superintelligence didn't just make the case for a basic income — it sped up the deadline for one. I agree with the deadline, and then I push on what comes after it.
