Eleven nights asked pieces of one question. Tonight Vega wants the whole answer, and asks it straight out in the first minute: could we go there — the honest answer, not the kind one. 🌌✨ Qubit does not dodge this one. He has refused to settle three questions in a row, on purpose. A season that dodges its own question is unfinished. So we gather it all up. The wall: the nearest other sun is next door on any map and impossibly far to a ship. Nothing may cross the speed limit. Our farthest traveller reaches one whole day of light after nearly half a century. And a rocket must carry every gram it throws, so fuel needs fuel. The engines, from what has really flown to what may never be built: the sail that carries no fuel, the ship that rides a string of blasts, the fiercest fuel of which we can make only specks, and the shortcut whose page we deliberately left blank. The crossing: the ship that is also a home, the best moment that keeps moving further away, and the traveller who does not have to come home. AND THEN THEY ALL TURN OUT TO BE THE SAME THING. The distance never moved. The engine was never the enemy. TIME was. Every honest answer this season found was a different way of paying for time. SO HERE IS THE ANSWER, AND IT IS TWO ANSWERS, BECAUSE A MADE THING AND A PERSON ARE NOT ONE QUESTION. A made thing can almost certainly cross, given a decision and a very long patience. Something of ours has already gone. A person crossing is a real open question, held in pale pencil, shading toward the blank page — neither a promise nor a no. And the honest word for when is not soon, and most likely not us. BUT THE FIRST SMALL STEPS ARE NOT A PROPOSAL — THEY ARE ALREADY FLYING. Voyager 1, launched in 1977, is due to be 25,902,068,356 km (16,094,799,096 miles) from Earth on 18 November 2026 — one light-day, the first human-made object ever to reach that distance. It is still returning science. Engineers switched off its Low-energy Charged Particles experiment on 17 April 2026 after almost forty-nine years; both probes lose about 4 watts a year. And here is the warmest honest fact in this episode: the "Big Bang" power reconfiguration, a swap of power-hungry components for lower-power ones, was tested on Voyager 2 in May and June 2026, with Voyager 1 to follow. JPL says that if it works, the LECP could come back on, and the team hopes to keep an instrument alive on each probe into the 2030s. A switched-off sense that may yet return. And a real solar sail is finished. Applied Aerospace began building the membrane flight unit in November 2023 and completed all four quadrants in January 2026. It is larger than an Olympic swimming pool and 2.5 microns thick — thinner than a human hair. NASA's Space Storm Solar Sail Sentinel page says it will fly on NOAA's SOLAR-A mission in November 2029; NOAA's own May 2026 page is more cautious and calls the joint demonstration something being explored. So we say only what is certainly true: the sail is built, and it has a flight ahead of it. Meanwhile Breakthrough Starshot has been on hold since September 2025, and the Interstellar Probe stays complete, costed, decadal-recommended — and unbuilt. THEN THE HOMECOMING. From Alpha Centauri our Sun shines at about magnitude +0.5, the brightest star of the W of Cassiopeia, barely distorted from the shape we know. Somebody out there, someday, turns round and finds a small crooked pattern with one extra star on the end — same size as its neighbours, no brighter. That one is ours.
