When Rejection Goes Deeper | RSD, Relationships & Abuse — Part 2

Listen to Part 1 Here What begins as a conversation about rejection sensitive dysphoria goes somewhere deeper in Part 2. Lara and Emma continue exploring RSD, emotional sensitivity and the ways our experiences can shape how we react to rejection, criticism and relationships. Because sometimes it isn’t simply about overthinking an unanswered message. Sometimes the things we’ve lived through matter too. The conversation moves into relationships and experiences of abuse, and how looking backwards with a different understanding of yourself can change the way you interpret things that happened in the past. There are still tangents. There is still humour. Because apparently even when discussing serious things we remain completely incapable of travelling in a straight line. CONTENT NOTE: This episode includes discussion of abuse and abusive relationships. Please listen with care. We’re not doctors, therapists or diagnosticians. We’re two women talking honestly about our own experiences, what we’re learning and the things we’re beginning to understand differently in midlife. Why Does Rejection Hurt So Much? | RSD, ADHD & Overthinking - Part 1

Why can one unanswered message, slightly different tone of voice or passing comment send your brain into absolute meltdown? Welcome to Episode 2 of Anyway, Back to the Point - and this time we’re talking about rejection sensitive (or sensitivity) dysphoria, or RSD. Or, more accurately, why the tiniest hint of rejection can sometimes feel like an emotional freight train. In Part 1, Lara and Emma talk about RSD through the lens of their own experiences and their ongoing exploration of ADHD/AuDHD - from overthinking interactions and reading far too much into things to the internal spiral that can happen when you think someone is disappointed, annoyed or simply doesn’t like you. We talk about the stories our brains create, the desperate urge to fix things, people-pleasing, taking things personally and those moments when your rational brain knows everything is probably fine…while the rest of you absolutely does not. As ever, we’re not doctors and we’re not diagnosing anybody. We’re sharing lived experience, things we’ve recognised in ourselves and the conversations that happen when you suddenly start looking at your life through a different lens. If you’ve ever gone from “they haven’t replied yet” to “excellent, they clearly hate me” in approximately 90 seconds…you may feel extremely at home here. Part 2 continues the conversation and moves into more difficult territory, including relationships and abuse. Link to Part 2 Here Expect humour, honesty, swearing, tangents and occasional attempts to get back to the point.

Why Are We Like This? | Masking, Menopause & Midlife Realisations

Welcome to the first episode of Anyway, Back to the Point — a funny, honest midlife podcast for women whose coping strategies have stopped coping. In this episode, Lara and Emma introduce the podcast, themselves and the big question behind it all: why has everything felt so bloody hard? We talk about midlife, masking, motherhood, perimenopause, creativity, over-functioning, late-realised ADHD/AuDHD traits and the strange relief of looking back at your life and thinking… hang on, that might explain a lot. We’re not doctors and we’re not here to diagnose anyone. We’re sharing lived experience, honest conversation and the occasional scenic route. If you’ve ever wondered why you feel exhausted, overwhelmed, too much, not enough, wildly capable and completely frazzled all at once — this one’s for you. About us: Lara is in her early 50s, a single mum, production consultant, author and owner of Begin Again, an artisan home fragrance brand. After years of juggling parenting, creative work, wellbeing, business and life’s chaos, she began wondering whether the “depression” she had known since her mid-20s was the whole story. When her son left for university, she finally had space to recognise patterns and explore ADHD/AuDHD. Emma is in her late 40s, a mum, artist and former public-sector worker who spent years feeling misunderstood, overthinking, coping and trying to fit systems that never quite fit. After homeschooling her children, travelling with them and navigating depression, stress, illness and perimenopause, she began reframing her life through probable female ADHD. Expect humour, honesty, swearing, tangents and occasional attempts to get back to the point.
