    What actually is Reiki?

What actually is Reiki – and what happens when you have a Reiki treatment? In this episode of the Farnham Health & Wellness Podcast, I’m talking to Natalie Cox, aka NataMama, about Reiki, aromatherapy, massage, sound healing and the journey that led her to make complementary therapy her full-time work. Natalie first discovered Reiki almost by accident while studying at college. Her anatomy and physiology teacher happened to be a Reiki Master and offered her a short treatment. Natalie knew almost nothing about Reiki at the time, but the experience stayed with her. She began going for treatments herself, before eventually deciding that she wanted to understand what was actually happening and learn how to practise Reiki for herself. We go right back to that first experience and talk about what Reiki actually is, what a Reiki practitioner does during a treatment, and what someone coming for their first session might experience. Natalie also talks about the different reasons people come to see her. Some arrive simply because they're curious about Reiki, while others are looking for something that helps them feel calmer and more grounded. Alongside Reiki, her work now includes massage and aromatherapy, and we explore how those different practices have gradually become part of NataMama. We get into essential oils and aromatherapy too – including the thought that goes into choosing and blending oils, and why aromatherapy involves much more than simply enjoying a nice smell. Natalie also tells me about her collaborations with other local health and wellbeing practitioners. She works with sound practitioner Jo Carter of Soundshine, combining sound baths using gongs and Tibetan singing bowls with individual mini Reiki treatments. We talk about the experience of sound, vibration and touch, and Natalie shares some of her own experiences of sound healing. We also talk about the point at which a personal interest becomes a completely different life. Natalie spent 13 years in the same job before deciding to leave the security of something familiar and build NataMama. She talks about how difficult that decision felt, what finally prompted her to make it and what she hopes to develop next. Along the way, we talk about collaboration rather than competition within the local wellness community, seasonal workshops, yoga, cacao, sound healing, and some of the people Natalie has met through this work. If you've searched for Reiki in Farnham, Alton or Hampshire, wondered whether Reiki might be for you, or found yourself asking what actually is Reiki?, this episode gives you the opportunity to hear directly from a local practitioner about what she does and how she came to do it. When Did You Stop Dancing?

When did you stop dancing? Most of us moved naturally as children. We climbed, spun, swayed and danced without worrying what anyone thought. Somewhere along the way, many of us stopped. We began living more in our heads than in our bodies. In this episode of the Farnham Health & Wellness Podcast, I talk with 5Rhythms teacher Catherine Stagg-Macey about why movement matters for our mental and physical wellbeing. Together we explore how reconnecting with the body can influence stress, anxiety, trauma, emotional health and our sense of connection with ourselves and others. Our conversation covers the science of the nervous system, flow states, and the work of trauma researcher Bessel van der Kolk, alongside Catherine's experience of teaching 5Rhythms. We discuss why movement can be much more than exercise, how modern life encourages us to disconnect from our bodies, and what can happen when we begin to move again without judgement or expectation. Whether you're curious about 5Rhythms, interested in nervous system health, or simply looking for a different perspective on wellbeing, this episode offers an invitation to reflect on one simple question: When did you stop dancing? About our guest Catherine Stagg-Macey is a certified 5Rhythms teacher based near Farnham, helping people reconnect with themselves through movement. Relationships @home with Joe Summerfield

Relationships take navigation at the best of times. When you are restricted to your home difficulties that would not be there in normal circumstances start to appear. Joe is here to help you find a nicer way, a way that helps everything to be enjoyable rather than difficult. If the experience of current world events has put greater pressure on your relationships you will find a way through it with the help of Joe. Whatever the nature of the relationship - friendship, family, business/work, or romantic, we can all benefit from intimacy coaching. As social creatures with the capacity for complex emotional experience, relating is a defining part of the human experience. The way we relate gives shape and colour to our outlook, interactions, and relationships. We only know ourselves through our history of interactions. This history shapes the way we relate to ourselves; and in turn, the way we relate to ourselves shapes the way we relate to others. When we relate to others, this whole process is alive for them also. Intimacy coaching provides a container: a safe space with structure, calmness, reassurance, and consciousness, to explore what's alive in the relationship to gain greater empathy, connection, and communication. In doing so, it offers the potential to totally transform our experience. Joe can help you to enjoy deeper connection and greater harmony in your relationship - as well as growth as individuals? Joe tailors his intimacy coaching sessions to the couple or individual involved. He combines a number of different approaches in order to support self awareness, communication, empathy, and deep mutual understanding. By taking this journey, you may discover: The special spark or connection in your relationship. Practical tools for dissolving conflict. How to REALLY be there for your partner. New depth and passion in your connection. How to create bridges with someone with whom connection has been lost or broken.

    Fitness @home with Danny Bridgeman

Physical activity is beneficial for your mental health and wellbeing, the Mental Health Foundation say;  "We need to change the way we view physical activity in the UK in order not to see it as something we ‘have to do’, ‘should do’ or ‘ought to do’ for our health, but as something that we do because we personally value its positive benefits to our wellbeing."  Activities to increase fitness can be as successful at home without equipment as in the unnatural setting of a gym.  Danny speaks to us about getting active in the home, tips to improve posture and stretches to improve your body with a sedentary lifestyle. Advice on how often you should exercise and which exercises you should do. We learn that the optimal exercise plan is very manageable and fits in easily with a busy lifestyle.  Danny Bridgeman is predominantly a movement teacher offering private sessions, group classes, online videos, corporate work and retreats. He focuses on fitness, posture, functional movement and relaxation.  Sessions range from the subtlety of body awareness and meditation to HIIT and martial fitness. Danny says; "I have learned that being fit and healthy is part of an on going process and that change takes time. The key is to begin now and enjoy the journey. I want to share my knowledge and experience to help you develop and maintain a body that is functional, graceful and healthy... a body you enjoy waking up to everyday."  https://www.restore-your-body.com/
