GLIMMERS of Another Way of Being

Stephanie MacKinnon

The world feels heavy. But all around us, people are already building something different. GLIMMERS of Another Way of Being is a podcast about stories of grounded hope in a time of collapse. Hosted by leadership coach and community facilitator Stephanie MacKinnon, each episode is a conversation with people who are choosing a different path—through art, community, politics, food, education, care, activism and countless other acts of everyday courage. Together, we explore what becomes possible when we loosen the grip of the systems we've inherited and begin creating lives rooted in connection, justice and collective care. Because another way of being isn't just possible, it's already happening.___If you'd like to bring a little more of the spirit of GLIMMERS into your own day-to-day, I've created a free gift for you: Your Glimmers Practice: a  20-minute guided audio and reflection workbook to help you notice the moments of hope, beauty and possibility that are already around you. The Systems We Inherit & How We Build Beyond Them - With Annie Gichuru

What becomes possible when we stop accepting inherited systems as inevitable and begin asking who they were built for, who they exclude and what we could create instead? In this episode of GLIMMERS of Another Way of Being, I’m joined by Annie Gichuru, a leading racial equity coach and consultant for online entrepreneurs. Annie has supported prominent online business leaders to build intentionally inclusive businesses and works with the Beautiful You Coaching Academy as a racial equity trainer. Combining her experience as an internationally certified life coach, storyteller and human resources specialist, she is known for her compassionate approach to racial equity education and her incredible ability to hold space for meaningful change. Together, we explore:  Annie’s experience of moving from Kenya to Australia and becoming newly conscious of her Blackness  Why different histories and lived experiences shape how racial equity educators approach this work  Calling people in with compassion; without removing accountability  Why consuming more information is not the same as taking action  The critical thinking required to question what we have inherited  Who our workplaces, businesses and wider systems were originally built to serve  Why surface-level inclusion can continue to reproduce exclusion  How asking “Why do we do it this way?” can open the door to meaningful change  The influence each of us holds, whether at a boardroom table, a dinner table or anywhere in between This is a conversation about seeing the systems shaping our lives clearly enough to stop unconsciously reproducing them and recognising the collective power we hold to build something better. As Annie reminds us: “Your voice has so much power in it. How are you going to use it?” You can listen to Annie's Podcast here: https://anniegichuru.com/represented-podcast/ And download her AI Bias Guide for Coaches and Course Creators here: https://anniegichuru.com/ai-bias/ Thank you so much for listening. Art, Politics & the Spaces in Between with Sorcha O'Higgins

What happens when we stop assuming there is only one way to live? In this conversation, artist and activist Sorcha O'Higgins reflects on the experiences that shaped her political consciousness, from London to Argentina to rural Mayo, and how choosing differently has transformed the way she works, creates and shows up in her community. Together, we explore creativity, capitalism, agency, making art alongside a day job, holding contradiction, why community matters, and the quiet courage of building a life around what you truly value. This isn't a conversation about having all the answers. It's a conversation about remembering that another way is possible. Sorcha O'Higgins is an artist living in Mayo, Ireland. She's passionate about freedom and equality for everyone, everywhere, and believes that politics is central to that (within the current systems we have, anyway). She's the chair of the Mayo branch of the Social Democrats, and wants to promote positivity, and real opportunities for the public good of social democracy. She loves Catherine Connolly, Zohran Mamdani and David Bowie, and is currently obsessed with Heated Rivalry.  You can find more info and see some of Sorcha's collage work on her Instagram page here: https://www.instagram.com/sorchaoh_collage/ Thank you so much for listening.
