The Flood Begins: What Really Happened in the Days of Noah? | Genesis 7

The warning is over. The Flood begins. In Genesis 7, Noah, his family, and the animals God designated for preservation enter the Ark. Then God shuts the door. The world that existed before the Flood is about to disappear. In Part 4 of The Beginning of Humanity Outside Eden, Daniel Moreau and Hannah Moreau continue through Genesis and slow down to examine what actually happened in Chapter 7—and the many questions surrounding it. We explore: 🛶 How long did Noah have to build the Ark? Noah was 600 when the Flood came and 500 when he became father to Shem, Ham, and Japheth. What does that tell us about the timeline? 👨‍👦 Were Shem, Ham & Japheth triplets? Genesis groups their births together, but does it tell us how close together they were actually born? 🐑 Clean and unclean animals — Why were some animals brought in greater numbers than others? Why were the flying creatures also brought in by sevens? 🐾 Did Noah collect the animals? Genesis repeatedly says the animals came to Noah. Could God have directed the animals He wanted preserved toward the Ark? 🌧️ The Flood came from above and below — Genesis describes both the floodgates of the heavens opening and the fountains of the great deep breaking open. ⏳ 40 days vs. 150 days — The rain lasted 40 days and 40 nights, but Genesis says the waters prevailed upon the earth for 150 days. 🏔️ The waters covered the mountains — Genesis says the waters rose 15 cubits above them. 💀 Everything with the breath of life died outside the Ark. 👀 What was Noah's life like while building the Ark? Imagine the questions, ridicule, family pressure, and opposition he may have faced while living in a world filled with corruption. ✝️ Why did Jesus compare the last days to the days of Noah? 📜 The Book of Enoch and the origins of demons — Genesis doesn't explain what happened to the rebellious angels and Nephilim after the Flood, so we examine what the ancient Book of Enoch says and how its explanation of the spirits of the dead Nephilim compares with the demons described in the Gospels. And after all of this, only eight humans remain. Noah. His wife. His three sons. Their three wives. The old world is gone. But the story isn't over. Because Genesis 8 begins with one of the most powerful statements in the Flood account: "But God remembered Noah..."

The Days of Noah: Angels, Nephilim & The Coming Flood | The Beginning of Humanity Outside Eden - Part 3

What was really happening in the days of Noah? Genesis chapter 6 takes us into one of the most mysterious periods in the early history of humanity. The earth had become increasingly corrupt, spiritual beings had rebelled against God, the Nephilim were on the earth, and God determined that judgment was coming. In Part 3 of The Beginning of Humanity Outside Eden, Daniel Moreau and Hannah Moreau continue their journey through Genesis, slowing down to examine what Scripture tells us about the sons of God, the rebellious angels, the Nephilim, Noah, God's grief over humanity, and the coming Flood. 👼 The Sons of God & The Angels — Genesis 6 describes the sons of God taking the daughters of men as wives. We explore the angelic rebellion and the extraordinary ability of these spiritual beings to interact physically with humanity. ⚡ Angels Have Free Will — Angels can choose to obey or rebel against God. What does their rebellion tell us about the heavenly realm? ⛰️ The Watchers & Mount Hermon — The Book of Enoch provides additional ancient Jewish tradition about approximately 200 Watchers descending on Mount Hermon during the days of Jared. We examine what comes from Genesis and what comes from Enochic tradition. 👹 The Nephilim — Who were these mysterious beings? Why were they called mighty men and men of renown? And how might their presence have contributed to the corruption of humanity? ⏳ The 120-Year Decree — What did God mean when He declared man's days would be 120 years? Was it a countdown to the Flood or the beginning of the eventual reduction in human lifespan? 💔 God's Grief — Genesis says that humanity's thoughts had become continually evil and that God was grieved in His heart. What does this reveal about God's emotions and His relationship with His creation? 🕊️ Noah Walked With God — Why did Noah find favor with God while the world around him was falling apart? We connect Noah with his ancestor Enoch and the spiritual legacy passed through his family line. 🌎 The Days of Noah — Why did Jesus repeatedly reference Noah when discussing future judgment and the last days? 🛶 The Ark — What did the Ark actually look like? We examine its biblical dimensions, three levels, opening, and waterproofing with pitch—and why the traditional boat-shaped image may not match the biblical description. 🐾 What Did the Animals Eat? — Genesis tells us food was brought aboard for Noah's family and the animals. Were animals still eating vegetation at this point? Scripture doesn't explicitly answer, so we explore the possibilities. 🌊 The Coming Flood — Eight humans would survive: Noah, his wife, their three sons, and their wives. From them would come the post-Flood human population. If you're beginning to study Scripture, you may eventually encounter the Book of Enoch. While it isn't part of the biblical canon for most Christian traditions, it is an important ancient Jewish work that provides additional material surrounding Genesis 5–6, particularly Enoch, the Watchers, the Nephilim, and the events leading up to Noah. Jude directly quotes a prophecy attributed to Enoch, while Jude and 2 Peter discuss angels who sinned, left their proper dwelling, and were placed under restraint awaiting judgment. That doesn't make the entire Book of Enoch Scripture, but it makes it a fascinating piece of ancient Jewish literature that can help us understand the world surrounding Genesis 5–6. And that's where we're headed next. Daniel and Hannah will take a much deeper look at the Book of Enoch—what it says, how it connects with Genesis, and what Jude and Peter may have been referring to. Between The VersesWhere curiosity meets Scripture. Scriptures discussed: Genesis 6; Genesis 3; Genesis 5; Job; Jude 6, 14–15; 2 Peter 2:4; Matthew 24:37–39.

Adam's Legacy, Enoch Walked With God & Methuselah | The Beginning of Humanity Outside Eden - Part 2

At first glance, Genesis chapter 5 can seem like little more than a list of names and ages. Many readers move through it quickly on their way to the story of Noah. But what if this chapter contains far more than a genealogy? In Part 2 of our series, The Beginning of Humanity Outside Eden, Daniel Moreau and Hannah Moreau continue their verse-by-verse journey through Genesis by slowing down and carefully examining one of the Bible's most overlooked chapters. Together, we explore the generations that followed Adam and Eve after humanity's expulsion from the Garden of Eden. Genesis 5 provides a fascinating glimpse into mankind's earliest centuries, revealing extraordinary lifespans, expanding families, and a world that was still much closer to God's original creation than the one we know today. Throughout this episode, we carefully distinguish between what Scripture explicitly teaches and thoughtful questions that naturally arise while studying the biblical text. Our goal is not to add to God's Word but to encourage listeners to think deeply, read carefully, and continue studying for themselves. • Why Genesis begins by reminding us that mankind was created in God's image. • Seth being born in Adam's likeness and what that may imply. • Adam being 130 years old when Seth was born. • Whether humanity's biological aging may have begun after the Fall. • What Adam's 930-year lifespan tells us about God's original purpose for mankind. • Adam's additional sons and daughters and how Genesis compresses centuries into only a few verses. • Where Cain's wife most likely came from and why close-family marriages were unique to humanity's earliest generations. • The remarkable lifespans recorded throughout Genesis 5 and what they reveal about the early human family. • Why many of the people listed waited decades before having children. • The "bloom of youth" described in 1 Corinthians 7:36 and whether human development may have differed during mankind's earliest generations. • How Adam lived alongside multiple generations of his descendants, making the eyewitness account of creation remarkably close to later generations. • Jared, Methuselah, and the extraordinary longevity of early humanity. • The repeated names found in both Cain's and Seth's family lines. • Enoch's extraordinary relationship with God and what it means to "walk with God." • Why Genesis says that God "took" Enoch. • The Book of Enoch, its historical significance, and why many Bible students are interested in reading it while recognizing its different status across Christian traditions. • Lamech, the father of Noah, and the significance of his life. • Why Noah did not become a father until around 500 years of age. • Whether Adam and Noah lived at the same time and how the biblical timeline answers that question. • The unanswered questions surrounding Eve's later life and death. • How Genesis 5 quietly prepares readers for the dramatic events of Genesis chapter 6. One of the themes running throughout this chapter is both sobering and hopeful. Again and again we read that each generation lived... and then died. The consequences of sin continued to unfold exactly as God had warned. Yet, through every generation, God's promise of redemption also continued. The family line leading to Noah—and ultimately to Jesus Christ—remained intact. Genesis 5 reminds us that even passages many people skip over are filled with meaningful details that deepen our understanding of God's Word. When we slow down and read carefully, we often discover that some of Scripture's greatest treasures are found in the chapters we least expect. Thank you for joining us for another episode of Between The Verses. We hope this discussion encourages you to open your Bible, ask thoughtful questions, and continue discovering the incredible depth found between the verses. Where curiosity meets Scripture. Where Do Dinosaur's Fit In Genesis? | Questions From our Listener's

One of the goals of Between The Verses – Where Curiosity Meets Scripture is to encourage believers to ask thoughtful questions that bring them back to God's Word. That's exactly why we're excited to introduce the first episode in our new standalone series, Questions From Our Listeners. In this episode, hosts Daniel Moreau and Hannah Moreau explore a fascinating question submitted by one of our listeners: "Where and when did the dinosaurs exist during creation?" It's a question that has sparked curiosity for generations and naturally leads into a broader discussion about Genesis, God's perspective of time, and how scientific observations can complement our appreciation of God's creation while remaining distinct from biblical doctrine. Throughout this conversation, we intentionally distinguish between: 📖 What Scripture clearly teaches 🔬 What science has observed and studied 💭 Where we're simply exploring possibilities because the Bible is silent Topics discussed include: • What does "a day is like a thousand years" really mean?• Could the creation days represent much longer periods from Earth's perspective?• Where might dinosaurs fit into the Genesis account?• Could Pangaea have existed during the Creation period?• Why would God create dinosaurs?• Could dinosaurs have existed during Adam's lifetime?• Was the serpent before the Fall different from modern snakes?• The mysterious Behemoth and Leviathan described in the Book of Job.• Why curiosity should always lead us back to Scripture. Everything discussed comes from our individual Bible reading, study, listener questions, and thoughtful exploration. We do not present speculation as biblical doctrine. Instead, we hope these conversations encourage you to open your Bible, examine the Scriptures for yourself, and grow deeper in your understanding of God's character and His incredible creation. After all, the Bible isn't simply an ancient collection of writings that has survived for thousands of years—it is God's inspired Word, faithfully preserved through millennia. If that isn't evidence of God's hand at work, we don't know what is. Thank you for joining us for the very first Questions From Our Listeners episode.

Cain & Abel, The First Murder & Life Outside Eden | The Beginning of Humanity Outside Eden - Part 1

The story didn't end when Adam and Eve walked out of the Garden of Eden. In many ways, it was only beginning. Welcome to the first episode of our new Genesis series, The Beginning of Humanity Outside Eden. After exploring creation, Eden, and humanity's fall in our previous series, we now continue our verse-by-verse discussion through Genesis as we examine what life looked like after paradise was lost. Genesis chapter 4 introduces us to the first family living outside Eden, where mankind begins learning how to survive in a world forever changed by sin. Adam and Eve must now cultivate difficult ground, raise children, and build a future without the perfect environment they once knew. The chapter also records some of humanity's earliest milestones, including the first childbirth, the first occupations, the first recorded offerings to God, the first jealousy, the first murder, and the first recorded human lie. In this episode, Daniel Moreau and Hannah Moreau explore questions that naturally arise while carefully reading Genesis. We discuss what Scripture clearly teaches while also considering possibilities where the Bible remains silent, always striving to distinguish thoughtful discussion from biblical doctrine. Among the topics explored in this episode: • The transition from life inside Eden to life outside the Garden. • What the cherubim guarding Eden may have learned as they witnessed mankind's exile. • Whether Adam and Eve knew the Tree of Life existed before leaving Eden. • God's statement that mankind had become "like one of us, knowing good and bad." • Why Adam names his wife Eve only after the Fall. • Humanity's first childbirth and the challenges Adam and Eve likely faced without anyone to guide them. • How the first family may have learned to survive, cultivate the ground, build tools, and establish daily life outside paradise. • Whether animals already existed beyond the Garden and how God's original purpose for the earth may have related to Eden. • The different roles of Cain and Abel and what those occupations may reveal about their personalities. • Why God accepted Abel's offering but rejected Cain's, and what Scripture suggests about the attitude behind true worship. • Whether God continued communicating with humanity after the Fall. • The progression of sin from disobedience to jealousy, then to murder, and finally to deception. • God's judgment upon Cain, why the ground would no longer produce for him, and the remarkable balance of justice and mercy shown in God's response. • Where Cain's wife most likely came from and why Genesis moves through long periods of time in only a few verses. • Cain's descendants, the beginning of cities, advancements in music, livestock management, and metalworking. • Lamech's pride, violence, and the first recorded example of polygamy. • The birth of Seth and the continuation of the family line leading toward God's redemptive plan. • The birth of Enosh and the significance of people beginning to call upon the name of the LORD. Throughout this discussion, we encourage listeners to open their own Bibles, read the text for themselves, and thoughtfully consider what Genesis says while resisting the temptation to go beyond what has been revealed. Our goal is not to replace personal Bible study but to encourage it. Whether you've studied Genesis for decades or you're reading it for the very first time, we invite you to slow down, ask questions, and discover the incredible depth found between the verses. Thank you for listening to Between The Verses. Where curiosity meets Scripture.

Creation, Adam, Eve & The Fall of Man | Between The Verses: Unpacking The Beginning – Part 1

What if some of the most fascinating insights in Scripture aren't found by reading beyond the Bible—but by slowing down and reading it more carefully? In the premiere episode of Between The Verses, hosts Daniel Moreau and Hannah Moreau begin an in-depth exploration of the opening chapters of Genesis. Together, they examine what the Bible clearly teaches, distinguish biblical truth from thoughtful speculation, and ask meaningful questions that have intrigued students of Scripture for generations. The creation account is familiar to many, yet Genesis contains details that often go unnoticed. As Daniel and Hannah revisit these foundational passages, they invite listeners to pause, reflect, and consider the significance of what is written—and even what is left unsaid. In this first part of the discussion, they explore questions such as: • Could the six days of creation reveal a larger biblical pattern when considered alongside Psalm 90:4 and 2 Peter 3:8? • Why did God bless and sanctify the seventh day, making it the very first thing in Scripture declared holy? • What might Adam have experienced while naming the animals, and did that responsibility extend to every living creature, including those of the sea? • What were the original names of the animals, trees, fruits, and vegetation before languages were divided at Babel? • Why did the serpent approach Eve instead of Adam? Could there have been a reason Satan targeted her first? • Did Adam's earlier fellowship with God before Eve's creation shape his perspective in ways that Scripture subtly hints at? • Why wasn't Eve surprised that the serpent spoke? Does Genesis suggest something about creation before the Fall that we often overlook? Throughout the conversation, Daniel and Hannah emphasize an important principle: while Scripture provides everything necessary for knowing God and understanding His plan of redemption, it also leaves room for thoughtful questions that inspire deeper study. Some topics discussed in this episode are firmly grounded in the biblical text, while others are presented as possibilities for reflection—not as doctrine. Whether you've spent decades studying the Bible or are opening Genesis for the first time, this episode is an invitation to engage with God's Word thoughtfully, carefully, and with a spirit of humility. The goal isn't to force answers where Scripture is silent. Instead, it's to appreciate the richness of the biblical narrative, explore the context surrounding familiar passages, and cultivate a deeper love for God's Word. If you've ever found yourself reading Genesis and thinking, "I wonder why that happened?" or "The Bible doesn't seem to say..." then this conversation is for you. This is only the beginning. Join us as we unpack the earliest chapters of Scripture, ask honest questions, seek biblical understanding, and discover that some of the most meaningful conversations begin by reading... between the verses. Scriptures referenced include: • Genesis 1–3 • Psalm 90:4 • 2 Peter 3:8 • Proverbs 25:2 Thank you for listening to Episode 1 of Between The Verses.
