Parenting Tools EP 4 - Should AI Raise Your Kids?

We asked ChatGPT for the greatest parenting hits of 2026 — then put every one of them in front of Nicole, who raised six kids. Pro, no, or mid? Spoiler: the robot does better than you'd think. It just keeps leaving out the part that actually makes it work. Ian reads the list. Nicole votes. Thumbs up, thumbs down, or the dreaded sideways thumb. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ THE LIST #1 CONNECTION BEFORE CORRECTION — MID Getting down to their level, eye contact, "look at me, I want to talk with you, not at you" — Nicole loves that part. What she doesn't buy is waiting until your child feels "safe enough to be vulnerable". Kids aren't delicate little flowers. They love feedback, they love boundaries, and they can take a lot more than we give them credit for. #2 THE WINDOW OF TOLERANCE — GOOD… THEN MID Once a child is in full meltdown there's nothing to reason with — you let them go through it and talk afterwards. Agreed. But the list skips the most useful moment of all: the few seconds before the meltdown, when a well-timed "whoa, look at that tractor!" makes the whole thing disappear. #3 BOUNDARIES ARE KINDNESS — GOOD… THEN MID The airport rule: "between that pole and that pole you can run, chase, do whatever you want — step over the line and you sit down." Freedom inside the boundary, safety because of it. What's missing: a consequence that's strong enough to act as a brake. If your kid doesn't mind the consequence, it's not a consequence. And if you're new to this, start with a small battle you can win 100%. #4 THE POWER OF MODELING — MID Read if you want a reader, sure. But you don't become a good football player by watching football. Modeling is maybe 20%. The other 80% is coaching — letting them try, make mistakes, step over the line and learn from it. #5 NATURAL VS LOGICAL CONSEQUENCES — HALF AND HALF Natural consequences: brilliant. No socks? Go outside and see how it feels. You're not the judge, the cold is. The "logical" one — the broken toy goes away for the day — isn't a consequence at all, it's a broken toy. Nicole's alternative: pick a real consequence together in advance, or use the carrot. Two weeks without breaking a single toy and that helicopter is yours. THE SECRET SAUCE — "get it right 30–50% of the time" Way too low, they both say. That's the child who runs the house — and running the house is exhausting for a kid. Aim for 80–90%. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ So — should AI raise your kids? Nicole's answer: take whatever help you can get. But nobody is really ready to raise your child but you. Stay curious, and do the first three steps every time: assess, choose, follow through. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ CHAPTERS 0:00 Can ChatGPT raise your kids? 0:53 The rules: pro, no or mid 1:49 #1 Connection before correction 4:05 Why "vulnerable" is the wrong word 6:57 What a "funk" is — and when to wait it out 13:10 #2 The window of tolerance 14:27 The moment before the meltdown 17:08 #3 Boundaries are kindness 18:51 The airport rule 20:33 A consequence has to act like a brake 22:39 Three rules you keep beat fifty you don't 24:03 Start with a battle you can win 26:10 #4 The power of modeling 27:14 You don't become a player by watching 31:00 #5 Natural vs logical consequences 32:47 Kids lying and hiding — is it so bad? 35:12 No socks? No theory for the sake of theory. No perfect parents. Just the tools, why they work, and what to do when they don't. Got a situation you can't crack? Put it in the comments — we read them, and the good ones become episodes.
