Luke 7 - Real Worship

Real Worship | Luke 7:36–50 What does it mean to truly worship God? In Luke 7:36–50, Jesus encounters two very different people: Simon, a Pharisee who invites Him into his home, and a sinful woman who comes to His feet with tears, love, and an offering. While Simon sees himself as righteous and judges the woman for her sins, she recognizes her need for Christ and approaches Him with humility and faith. In this message, we examine the difference between religious activity and genuine worship. Worship isn’t simply attending church, singing hymns, giving money, or serving in ministry. It’s approaching God with a humble heart, recognizing our need for His grace, and offering ourselves to Him in love and obedience. No matter how great our sins or how long we’ve attended church, we all come to Christ on the same terms: through faith, not our own righteousness. “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” Luke 7:50

Luke 7 John Struggles

John Struggles | Luke 7:18–35 Have you ever questioned what God is doing in your life? Have you ever wondered why God allows certain hardships or why He doesn’t answer your prayers the way you expect? Even John the Baptist struggled with doubt. While sitting in prison, John sent his disciples to Jesus with a question: “Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?” Rather than condemning John for his doubts, Jesus pointed him toward the evidence of His identity and the fulfillment of God’s promises. In this message, Pastor Micah Smith explores the difference between doubt that seeks God and unbelief that rejects Him. Through John’s questions, Jesus’ response, and the Pharisees’ rejection, we discover that struggling to understand God’s plan doesn’t mean we’ve lost our faith. Sometimes God answers our questions. Sometimes He simply reminds us that His grace is sufficient. Faith doesn’t require us to have all the answers, but it does require us to trust the One who does.

Luke 7 - Greater Than the Prophets

Greater Than the Prophets | Luke 7:11–17 In Luke 7, Jesus encounters a grieving widow whose only son has died. Moved with compassion, Jesus approaches the funeral procession and does something extraordinary: He commands the dead man to rise, and the dead man obeys. Centuries earlier, the prophets Elijah and Elisha had witnessed God restore life to the dead. But there is a significant difference. The prophets prayed for God to intervene. Jesus simply spoke with authority. In this sermon, Pastor Micah Smith explores the connections between Jesus and the Old Testament prophets, the compassion of Christ, and His absolute authority over death. The crowd declared, “A great prophet has arisen among us!” But Jesus was far greater than a prophet. He is the resurrection and the life. The question remains: “Do you believe this?” 📖 Scripture: Luke 7:11–17
⛪ First Baptist Church of Greater Rochester #Luke7 #GreaterThanTheProphets #JesusChrist #Resurrection #BibleTeaching #ChristianSermon

Luke 7 - A Faith That Amazed Jesus

What kind of faith amazes Jesus? In Luke 7:1–10, we encounter a Roman centurion who possesses military authority, wealth, and the respect of the Jewish elders. Yet when his servant becomes gravely ill, he recognizes the limits of his own power and turns to Jesus for help. While the Jewish elders declare the centurion worthy because of his accomplishments, the centurion humbly acknowledges his unworthiness and demonstrates extraordinary confidence in Christ’s authority. In this message, Pastor Micah Smith explores the centurion’s position, his need, and his remarkable faith. By comparing his encounter with Jesus to the story of Naaman in 2 Kings 5, we discover what it means to trust in the authority of Christ rather than our own abilities or accomplishments. True faith is not confidence in our own worthiness, but confidence in Christ’s authority and grace. Luke 6 - Obedience: The Foundation of Faith

What does it really mean to call Jesus “Lord”? In Luke 6:46–49, Jesus concludes His teaching with the picture of two houses facing the same storm. The difference isn’t the size of the house, how impressive it looks, or whether the storm comes. The difference is the foundation. In this message, Pastor Micah looks back at Jesus’ teaching throughout Luke 6 and examines what it means not only to hear His words, but to live by them. Storms are inevitable, but a life built on Christ has something solid to stand on when they come.

Luke 6- Produce Good Fruit

Jesus says that every tree is known by its fruit. But what does good fruit actually look like in the life of a Christian, and where does it come from? In Luke 6:43–45, Jesus points beyond outward religious behavior to the heart from which our words and actions grow. Looking also at James 1 and Galatians 5, Pastor Micah Smith explores how God changes the heart through His Word and produces fruit through His Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The Christian life isn’t about manufacturing good fruit through our own strength. God changes our hearts so that our lives produce fruit that displays His work to the world.

Luke 6: Be Merciful

“Judge not” may be one of Jesus’ most quoted commands, but does it really mean Christians should never correct one another? In Luke 6:36–42, Jesus teaches us how mercy, humility, and correction belong together. Before helping remove the speck from someone else’s eye, we must first recognize our own need for God’s grace. Correction is necessary, but never without humility and mercy.

Luke 6 - Setting the Example

Jesus calls His followers to live differently from the world around them. In Luke 6:27–36, He gives us a challenging command: love our enemies, do good to those who hate us, bless those who curse us, and pray for those who mistreat us. But Jesus doesn’t ask us to do something He was unwilling to do Himself. At the cross, Christ loved His enemies, prayed for those who persecuted Him, endured mistreatment without retaliation, and gave for people who could never repay Him. In this message, we look at how Christians can show the world the love that Christ first showed us.
