The ICU doctor training for ultra marathons whilst working 100 hour weeks!

Dr Chris Wilder joins the Do It All podcast for episode 6 to talk all things training around his busy life as a father of 3 whilst working 100-hour weeks as a Pediatric ICU doctor. We talk about his journey in ultra-running, his experience training around his busy life, upcoming races, backyard ultras, and much more. This episode is a must-listen for anyone who’s lacking in motivation or thinks that they are too busy to make it work. If Chris can do it, so can you!Apologies for my hosting being a little subpar today; I only returned from hospital yesterday following thoracic surgery to biopsy and remove a mediastinal tumour behind my sternum. There were some slight complications that resulted in my lung collapsing, following the drain tube disconnecting spontaneously from the chest tube. This allowed air to rapidly enter my chest, and I was left gasping for air. Everyone worked very quickly to get me safe and back to a stable state before sending me home as planned. The only thing I have to say is that we need our government to prioritise ensuring that there are adequate staffing ratios and working conditions that encourage people to stay in the profession so that little mistakes like this don’t continue to happen. People like Chris, as well as my team of nurses and doctors at the Austin hospital, work so hard to keep people alive and often fight against the system to make it happen. Stand with our doctors and nurses to keep our healthcare system healthy. If you want to support this podcast, check out our sponsors via the links below.Tarnkine Athletics: www.tarkine.com/ZACHARY80316 Maple Movement: www.maplemovement.com/zacharymark If you want to help keep me and my family over this complex time as I undergo Cancer treatment, donate via the GoFundMe link below. https://gofund.me/693caf35b This is a public episode.
