The LAYERED Podcast

Brittni Popp & Michael Freeman

The LAYERED Podcast is what happens when a celebrity cake artist marries the guy who never stops giving his opinion. Hosted by Brittni Popp, founder of the nationally recognized brand Betchin Cakes, and her husband Michael, every episode peels back the layers of marriage, relationships, business, pop culture, internet chaos, and the conversations everyone is thinking—but nobody wants to say out loud. From celebrity stories and behind-the-scenes moments to hilarious arguments, hot takes, entrepreneurship, friendships, and the occasional overshare, nothing is off-limits. Brittni has spent years building cakes for celebrities, major brands, and unforgettable events, while Michael somehow became an expert on… absolutely everything. One story. Two completely different versions. New episodes every week featuring unfiltered conversations, special guests, and plenty of moments that probably should’ve stayed in the group chat. EPI 007 - THE REVEAL: OUR LAYER, FESTIVAL LORE & RIFF RAFF

Brittni and Michael finally turn the cameras on and welcome everyone into their Layer — because apparently having microphones wasn’t enough evidence. The South Bay is melting in a brutal heat wave when their neighbors drop off a Mid-Autumn Festival gift, which somehow leads to a genuinely thoughtful conversation about tradition, spiritual timing, meaningful gestures, and why returning that kind of thoughtfulness can mean so much. Very sweet. Very grounded. Very “look at us growing.” That lasts about five minutes. Bethenny Frankel heads to Burning Man, one of Brittni’s comments gets pulled into the mix, and suddenly Michael is being handed a full historical briefing on his wife’s festival era like he accidentally opened a classified file. Two years of Diplo’s Mad Decent Boat Party.Getting stranded in Cuba.Partying in the middle of the ocean with Zeds Dead.Brunch with Borgore.A private island in the Bahamas. And, casually buried in the archives, making out with RIFF RAFF. Which is exactly the kind of information you assume your spouse has already told you until you realize… apparently not. So now Michael is processing festival lore, Cuba, the Bahamas, and one extremely specific rapper while Brittni keeps remembering details like she’s unlocking bonus footage from her own twenties. First video episode. New studio. Spiritual signs. Festival chaos. Questionable decisions. RIFF RAFF. Turns out the microphones were never the problem. The cameras just gave the evidence better lighting.

EPI 004 - THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD: FOR BELLA

This episode is different. It isn’t just another story from our lives. And it definitely isn’t the reason we ever imagined we’d be traveling to New Zealand together. We went to be with our family after losing our beautiful cousin, Isabella Giorgio Beirne, far too young. For Mike, New Zealand is a place he’s been many times. For Brittni, it was the first time. But this trip was unlike any trip either of us had ever taken. We went to show up. To be there for our family during the hardest time of their lives. To celebrate Bella. To cry. To laugh. To hear stories about her we had never heard before and spend time with our family and friends who knew and loved a whole other side of her. And somehow, in the middle of one of the saddest reasons to travel across the world, life kept happening around us. We explored New Zealand. We met incredible people. We ate our way from city to city. We laughed harder than we expected to. Brittni developed a completely unnecessary obsession with Sonny Angels. (Thanks Maddy + Zoe) And we made memories on a trip we wish we never had a reason to take. Because grief is weird like that. You can be completely heartbroken and still laugh. You can be celebrating someone while desperately wishing they were there to celebrate with you. You can experience something beautiful in the middle of something incredibly painful. This episode is for Bella. And for the people who loved her most - her dad, Simon, her mum, Hayley, and her beloved brother, Lachie. For the family who traveled across the world to stand beside them. For the friends who filled the room with stories, laughter, tears, and memories. And for everyone learning how to carry Bella with them in a world that looks different without her. It's about grief.  It’s about family. It’s about showing up. It’s about celebrating someone instead of only mourning them. And it’s about being reminded, in the most unexpected way, just how precious life really is. We hope that by the end of this episode, you feel like you got to know a little piece of Bella too. Because this isn’t an episode about how she passed away. It’s about how beautifully she lived. And how many people will continue carrying her with them. This one is for our Guardian Angel Isabella Giorgio Beirne.
