The Golden Thread

Danielle Petro

What if the moments that broke you were actually part of something being built? Life has a texture to it, a weave. And when you start to pull back on the threads, something happens. You begin to see the pattern. You begin to see how the hard moments, the ruptures, the detours, all of it was connected. All of it was material. That's where the magic lives. The Golden Thread is a philosophical podcast exploring how perception shapes reality, how identity evolves through rupture, and what becomes possible when we stop moving through our lives and start playing in them, as real participants, as co-creators, as people who are finally in on the game.

When the Life You Built No Longer Fits (Part One): Identity & Plant Medicine with Dr. Eric Russell

When the Life You Built No Longer Fits (Part One) | Dr. Eric RussellWhat happens when the life you worked so hard to build stops feeling like yours? In Part One of my conversation with Dr. Eric Russell, we begin with his story: a childhood filled with curiosity, a career built in the corporate tech world, years spent living in survival mode, and the unexpected rupture that forced him to question the direction his life was taking. But our conversation goes much deeper from there. Eric is a doctor of psychology, plant medicine educator, and integration coach, and together we explore the intersection of psychology, identity, plant medicine, and personal transformation. We talk about what happens when we suppress parts of ourselves in order to belong or succeed, and how difficult it can be to recognize that the life you've built around those identities may no longer fit. We also begin exploring Eric's experience with psilocybin and the role plant medicine played in changing the way he understood himself and his life. From there, our conversation opens into some of the deeper and more nuanced pieces of psychedelic work: preparation, safety, integration, discernment, and the responsibility that comes with helping someone make meaning from a powerful experience. This isn't simply a conversation about leaving one life and creating another. It's about what happens when something disrupts the way you've been living and you begin looking more closely at what belongs to you, what you've inherited, and what you may be ready to reconsider. Emergence, Part Two: The Courage to Become Yourself

In Part Two of my conversation with Letty Feltenberger, we pick up where Survival to Self left off and move deeper into what happens when we begin to move out of survival and ask a different question: Who am I underneath all of it? We talk about the versions of ourselves we created in order to survive, the ways we learned to numb, perform, people-please, or outrun what we were feeling, and what happens when those ways of being no longer fit. At the center of this conversation is a question I keep returning to: What if our purpose isn’t something we’re meant to do, but someone we’re meant to become? Letty shares how her relationship with purpose has shifted from asking how she is supposed to help or serve others to asking who she is when she allows herself to be fully seen and expressed. From there, we explore curiosity as a pathway back to ourselves. The curiosity we naturally carry as children. The questions we slowly learn to stop asking. And what becomes possible when we begin turning that curiosity inward again. We also go deep into integration. Because a breakthrough, a breathwork session, a plant medicine experience, or any profound moment of realization can open something within us, but the experience itself isn’t the work. The work is what happens when we return to our lives. When the anger surfaces. When the grief arrives. When an old pattern gets activated and, instead of outrunning ourselves, we learn how to meet ourselves there. We talk about ego deaths, nervous system responses, grief, witnessing, and what it takes to recognize the patterns we’ve been living inside and begin choosing differently. And as our conversation comes to a close, we trace the thread running through Letty’s life and the experiences that have shaped the woman she is becoming. This is a conversation about moving beyond survival, remembering who you are, and learning how to actually live what you’ve come to understand. Emergence, Part One: From Survival to Self

What if the life you've built was shaped by patterns you never consciously chose? In Part One of this conversation, Letty and I explore the identities we inherit, the stories that shape us, and what it looks like to begin choosing ourselves instead of living on autopilot. Together, we dive into motherhood, healing, nervous system work, breathwork, self-trust, and the quiet process of becoming someone who feels more aligned with who they've always been beneath the expectations, conditioning, and roles they've carried. This conversation isn't about becoming someone new. It's about remembering who you've always been. Meet LettyToday's guest is Letty Feltenberger. She's a mom, a certified 9D Breathwork facilitator, and someone who's deeply fascinated by the human experience. Her work is rooted in one question: How did we become who we became? By blending breathwork with honest conversations and a whole lot of curiosity, she helps people recognize the patterns that have quietly been shaping their lives so they can stop living on autopilot and start making choices that feel true to who they are. What If Your Purpose Was Never Lost?

In the last solo episode, I shared the rupture that changed the trajectory of my life. This episode is about what came after. It's about the philosophy behind The Golden Thread, and why I believe every one of us has a thread that has been weaving through our lives since we were children. For me, it takes me back to a rooftop in Montana, lying under the stars with my brother, counting 84 shooting stars in a single night. Looking back, I can see that little girl was already showing me what I was here to do. She was captivated by mystery. She wanted to understand life. She wanted to know what couldn't be seen. Then life happened. Trauma. Grief. Conditioning. The slow process of becoming someone I thought I had to be. It wasn't until losing my best friend that I found my way back to that little girl again. In this conversation, I share why I don't believe purpose is something we go out and find. I think it's something we've been in relationship with our entire lives. Sometimes we just need enough stillness, enough courage, or enough heartbreak to finally recognize it. At the end of this episode, I leave you with the same question I ask myself and so many of my clients: What thread has been running through your life all along? From Bathroom Floor to Breakthrough

Episode 1: From Bathroom Floor to BreakthroughThere are moments that divide a life into "before" and "after." For me, that moment came on the bathroom floor after the death of my best friend. In this opening episode of The Golden Thread, I share the story of the rupture that unraveled the life I had built and the quiet invitation that emerged from the depths of grief: It's time. This is the story of burnout, loss, survival, and the moment I chose the unknown over the familiar. It's also the origin story of this podcast and the beginning of a deeper conversation about the invisible threads that shape our lives. If you've ever found yourself standing at a crossroads, wondering whether to keep living the life you've always known or step into something you can't yet see, this episode is for you.
