Episode 2: Tommy Katona on Stevie Ray Vaughan’s Legacy

In this special episode of the SRV Theory Podcast, Alan Barry Bush sits down with Tommy Katona of Texas Flood for a conversation about Stevie Ray Vaughan, the music that shaped them both, and why Stevie’s legacy continues to connect people decades later. From discovering Stevie while growing up in Hungary to building Texas Flood and carrying that music forward onstage, Tommy shares the experiences that shaped his journey as a guitarist and performer. Along the way, Alan and Tommy talk about learning by ear, touch and feel, guitars and amps, the story behind Tommy’s prized Stratocasters, and the difference between being influenced by Stevie and trying to replace him. But the conversation soon becomes something deeper: a reflection on sobriety, perseverance, purpose, and the way music can reach people when they need it most. At the heart of the episode is a shared belief that there was only one Stevie Ray Vaughan, and that keeping his music alive is not about imitation or competition. It is about sharing it, cherishing it, and passing it forward. As Tommy says, even decades later, Stevie is still bringing people together. Whether you're a lifelong Stevie Ray Vaughan fan, a guitarist searching for better feel and tone, a blues musician, or simply someone who understands the power music can have in a person's life, this is a conversation about much more than guitar. Soul to soul. Hosted by: Alan Barry Bush Guest: Tommy Katona — Texas Flood Theme music: Riff of the Redeemed — written and performed by Alan Barry Bush
