    Aim Small, Miss Small | A Biblical Approach to Growth

    Last episode, I completely bombed a USPSA match. This time, we're talking about what comes next. Failure can expose weaknesses in our shooting—bad grip, inconsistent presentation, poor dot discipline, or fundamentals that disappear under pressure. But once we've honestly identified what went wrong, trying to fix everything at once can become its own problem. Instead, focus on the next faithful step. In this episode of the Armed Disciple Podcast, we look at how deliberate training, honest self-evaluation, and the shooting principle “aim small, miss small” can teach us something much bigger about following Jesus. Then we dig into Philippians 3:12–14 (ESV) and Paul's words: “I press on…” Paul wasn't imprisoned by yesterday's failures—and he wasn't living off yesterday's victories. His focus remained on Christ and what was ahead. Maybe your bad match didn't happen on a shooting range. Maybe it happened at home. Maybe you lost your temper. Maybe you fell back into an old sin. Maybe you've stopped spending time with God. Maybe the distance between the man you are and the man God is calling you to become feels enormous. Don't try to cross that entire distance today. Ask one question: “Lord, what is my next faithful step?” Then take it.     I Bombed My USPSA Match — What Failure Taught Me

    I completely bombed my last USPSA match. Bad stages, missed fundamentals, sloppy transitions, lost stage plans—and one of the worst stage scores I’ve ever shot. So instead of hiding it, we’re breaking it down. In this episode of the Armed Disciple Podcast, I review footage from my latest USPSA Carry Optics match and look at what actually went wrong. From slow transitions and missed reload opportunities to losing dot discipline and completely abandoning a stage plan, this match exposed something important: Practice shows you what you can do. Pressure shows you what you actually own. That lesson goes far beyond competition shooting. We’ll look at all five stages, including a brutal 9% finish on my final stage, and talk about grip consistency, vision, dot discipline, transitions, stage planning, and why trying to outrun your current skill level usually ends badly. More importantly, I came away from this match realizing that I need a repeatable pre-stage routine—one that gets my mind, shooting fundamentals, and faith pointed in the same direction before the buzzer ever sounds. Because whether you're shooting a USPSA stage or walking through a difficult season of life, sometimes the answer isn't trying to conquer everything at once. It's simply taking the next faithful step. Bring glory to God on the next target. Then the next one. Then the next. Aim small. Miss small.
