The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes: The Movie

This week, Alexis and Suzanne finally get into the movie adaptation of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes! They discuss casting highlights ranging from spotting a young Dexter Sol Ansell aka Egg from A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms to recognizing the obvious talent from the likes of fellow Game of Thrones-universe actor Peter Dinklage, as well as Rachel Zegler, Viola Davis, and Hunter Schafer. Though many of their assessments of the movie are best summed up as "meh," they have fun discussing moments that shined or that had potential. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes: The Book, Part 2

This week, Alexis and Suzanne discuss all things prequels as they get into deeper thematic analysis of the first Hunger Games prequel novel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. We ask and answer: What makes an effective prequel? What makes a prequel feel like a shallow cash grab? What's the appeal of all of these villain origin story prequels?? After sorting out this prequel debate, Alexis and Suzanne turn to the topic of narration in the novel, which is third-person limited past tense, different than the first-person present-tense narration of the original trilogy. What are the effects of that change? Rate and review us on Apple Podcasts and wherever you get your podcasts!
