You're Already Leading. You Just Don't Call It That.

Jill Golledge is back for round two — and this time, Chinelo brought every question her community had been saving since the first episode. In this follow-up conversation, the leadership and confidence coach behind The Thoughtful Leader goes further into the practical side of leading as an introvert: how to tell burnout apart from ordinary introverted energy drain, how to say no without over-explaining, and why the meeting you walked out of thinking “why didn’t I say that” wasn’t a failure of confidence at all. If you’ve ever compared your quieter leadership style to someone louder and concluded you must be doing it wrong, or felt guilty for needing to recharge before you can be present with your own family, this episode is for you. What you’re navigating isn’t a personality flaw to manage around. It’s a genuinely different operating system — and once you understand its actual rules, most of the guilt stops making sense. The old assumption isn’t the real problem For a lot of introverted women, the working theory is that everyone else simply thinks faster. That’s not what’s happening. An introvert’s information processing pathway is measurably longer than an extrovert’s — not slower in a bad way, just routed through more of the brain before it reaches speech. The idea that arrives on the walk home, long after the meeting’s moved on, was never a missed chance. It was the process working exactly as it’s built to. What understanding your own energy actually gives you Jill’s clearest distinction from this episode is one a lot of mums have never had named for them: introversion and burnout are not the same thing, and confusing them keeps people stuck. Introversion is about how you lose and gain energy. Burnout is when nothing recharges you anymore — not even the things you used to love. Once you can tell the two apart, the fix changes completely: introverted depletion asks for rest and boundaries, but burnout is telling you something in your workload actually needs to go. The mistake almost every introverted leader makes Most people who feel behind in their leadership journey assume the problem is that they’re simply not leader material. That’s the wrong read. Leadership, in Jill’s framing, just means people are looking up to you — which most people already are, in ways they’ve never credited themselves for. The real question isn’t “am I a leader,” it’s “where am I already leading, and why haven’t I noticed?” What actually belongs in your visibility strategy Most people believe visibility means daily video, face to camera, every time. It doesn’t have to. Long-form written posts, thoughtful comments in someone else’s DMs, even a reel that’s just feet walking with text overlaid — all of it counts, and none of it requires performing a version of yourself that isn’t sustainable. What actually belongs in a visibility strategy is whatever keeps you showing up consistently without it costing you everything else. The mechanics that actually move the needle Once the mindset is right, a handful of concrete practices do most of the remaining work: Treat “no” as a complete sentence. Every yes has a hidden cost — something else always gets dropped to make room. Over-explaining a “no” only hands the other person more room to push back. Visualise the day’s one priority before you get out of bed. Picturing the single most important task already completed makes it noticeably easier to actually do. Map your energy, not just your schedule. Notice when you’re depleted and change state — even five minutes away from a task — rather than pushing through fatigue that’s already slowing you down. Have the boundary conversation with your kids too. Explaining that you need quiet time to recharge, rather than hiding it, teaches children that other people’s need for space is normal and worth respecting. Focus is what makes it work None of this holds up if the comparison trap keeps running in the background. Jill’s advice for women who measure themselves against louder entrepreneurs is to stop asking “why don’t I do it like Jenny” and start asking what you’re actually good at that Jenny isn’t — because comparison built on someone else’s strengths will always leave you feeling short. Lean into what makes you different Jill’s closing message for this episode is blunt in the best way: there is nothing wrong with you at all. You just do things differently from somebody else, and that’s your superpower. Lean into it, and the things that felt like obstacles — visibility, leadership, growth — start feeling less like a performance you have to survive and more like something you were already doing all along. TAKEAWAYS (but not in a box 😁) * “When you're being more quiet and more thoughtful, it's not a weakness. It's actually your advantage.” * “It’s not until you understand the information processing pathway in an introvert’s brain is much longer that you kind of go, oh, there is nothing wrong with me.” * “Introversion is all about how you lose and how you gain energy. Whereas burnout is when nothing recharges you anymore.” * “No is a full sentence.” * “Every time you say yes to something, it has a cost in some way.” * “You would never talk to your best friend the way you talk to yourself.” * “When you’re being yourself, it just comes across better anyway.” * “Most of us are leaders in some form, way, shape or form. We just don’t see it that way because we are comparing ourselves or measuring ourselves against a specific type of leader, those who are more extroverted.” * “Trust in your gut, trust in your gut instinct, listen to it as well.” * “The comparison comes from believing that there’s only one right way of doing things.” Ready to go deeper? The Mental Load Is a Business Problem — And Decluttering Your Home Could Be the Fix

When your home environment is chaotic, your business clarity suffers. In this conversation with award-winning decluttering specialist Janine McDonald, Chinelo explores how the physical and mental clutter in a mum's home directly impacts her ability to lead, think, and build. Janine shares her own journey from decision paralysis and “doom bags” to creating a career helping families find more clarity, confidence, and calm. You’ll hear practical, judgement-free decluttering advice that works in real homes — not Instagram houses — including why you should start with just three items, how to involve children without turning tidying into a battle, ways to handle sentimental clutter, and how to create separation between work and home when both happen under the same roof. In this episode, you’ll learn: • Why clutter can feel emotionally heavy and mentally draining • How to start decluttering when you feel overwhelmed • The simple “three things” method for building momentum • How to manage sentimental items such as baby clothes and memory keepsakes • Practical organisation tips using storage you already have • How labels and family systems can reduce the mental load • Ways to create a calmer work-from-home environment • What not to do when you are exhausted, stressed, or already overwhelmed Decluttering is not about having a perfect home. Quiet Isn't a Flaw: What a Forensic Scientist Turned Coach Wants Introverted Mums to Know About Leadership

You do not have to become louder, harder, or more extroverted to become a powerful leader. In this episode of Moving the Needle Forward, Chinelo sits down with leadership and self-confidence coach Jill Golledge, founder of The Thoughtful Leader, to explore what authentic leadership really looks like for introverted EntrepreMums building businesses in a noisy world. Together, they unpack the strengths introverted women often overlook in themselves. Jill shares practical insight on how introverted business mums can lead with confidence, show up visibly without pretending to be someone else, protect their energy, communicate boundaries, and grow a business in a way that feels sustainable and aligned. This episode speaks to the woman who has ever felt too quiet to lead, too drained by constant visibility, or too aware of how often business advice seems built for louder personalities. From perfectionism and overthinking to social media, decision-making, and heart-centred leadership, this conversation is a powerful reminder that thoughtful leadership is not a weakness. It is a strength. If you are navigating business growth while trying to stay true to yourself, this episode will encourage you to lead from who you are instead of performing who you think you need to be.
