The Ugly Sister

Growing up with three birth sisters, I was crowned "the ugly sister." Cute, right? For years, I let that label along with a chaotic childhood, domestic abuse, and toxic patterns tell me who I was. Not anymore. Today we take back OUR power. Own your shit girlies and sit with it 🤍 The Ugly Sister with Kendra Jaymes isn't a sob story or a pity party it's the ultimate safe space for the ugly ducklings, the survivors, and anyone who was ever told they were "too much," "not enough," or just plain out of place.

    The Ugly Grief

Episode Five: The Ugly Grief ⚠️ TRIGGER WARNING: This episode discusses grief, addiction and recovery, sexual assault, childhood abuse, suicide and suicidal ideation, psychiatric medication experiences, and psychedelic/plant-medicine treatments. What happens when you start healing… and then life hands you a grief you never could’ve prepared for? This week on The Ugly Sister Podcast, I’m sitting down with my dear friend Holley Stevenson for one of those conversations that feels less like an interview and more like you accidentally got added to our FaceTime call. Holley became a mother at just 16 years old, with her own mother beside her every step of the way. Years later, while already deep into her healing journey, Holley lost the woman who wasn’t just her mom—but her best friend and one of the people who helped her raise her daughter. We talk about grief that comes in waves, motherhood without the village our parents seemed to have, breaking generational patterns, learning to regulate instead of react, addiction recovery, mental health, medication, and Holley’s experiences with ibogaine and other psychedelic-assisted treatments. We also get into the messy shit: raising kids while you’re still healing yourself, apologizing when you get it wrong, protecting children when adults and systems fail them, and learning that sometimes healing isn’t about never falling apart again. Sometimes it’s about knowing what to do when you do. This episode is vulnerable, heavy, funny, occasionally unhinged, and very us. Because around here, we talk about the shit everyone else told us to keep quiet about. 🎙️🩷 The Ugly Sister Podcast with Kendra Jaymes Nothing discussed in this episode regarding medications, ibogaine, psychedelics, addiction treatment, or mental health treatment is medical advice. Individual experiences vary, and some substances or treatments discussed can carry serious risks.

The Ugly Cult Leader - Ashley Clemons

⚠️ TRIGGER WARNING: This episode contains detailed conversations about domestic violence, physical abuse, strangulation, coercive control, sexual assault, abuse during pregnancy, suicidal ideation/attempt, self-harm, and children witnessing domestic violence. Please listen with care and protect your peace if any of these topics are triggering for you. Episode Four : The Ugly Cult Leader Ashley Clemons never planned on becoming a voice in the middle of an internet firestorm. What started as simply following reality TV and speaking up for Taylor Frankie Paul when she felt something wasn’t adding up became deeply personal. Because Ashley wasn’t just watching a story unfold on a screen. She was recognizing patterns she had already survived. For the first time publicly, Ashley shares the story behind why she has defended Taylor so fiercely. She opens up about surviving not one, but two abusive relationships spanning more than a decade of her life including physical violence, coercive control, sexual assault, manipulation, surveillance, reactive behavior, abuse while pregnant, and the night the trauma became so unbearable that she attempted to take her own life. We also get into the ugly side of speaking up: smear campaigns, victim blaming, reactive abuse, internet pile-ons, being called “crazy” for recognizing patterns you lived through, and why supporting a woman does not mean blindly agreeing with everything she does. And yes… we talk about Taylor Frankie Paul, Dakota Mortensen, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, and the online circus surrounding all of it. But underneath the gossip is a much bigger conversation: What happens when survivors stop being ashamed of how they survived? Ashley spent years believing her voice didn’t matter. Today, she uses it. And apparently, some people find that deeply inconvenient. Welcome to The Ugly Sister Podcast where we talk about the shit everyone else would rather keep buried.
