In mid-September, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang received an unexpected phone call from US President Donald Trump while attending an artificial intelligence summit. During the call, Trump expressed his strong support for the development of AI data centres. As the global AI race escalates, data centres are emerging as critical infrastructure in the US push to expand its AI capabilities. China and other global players are likewise formulating distinct data centre strategies.  Singapore passed the Digital Infrastructure Bill on October 7, with no cap on data centre capacity. It is taking a more selective approach, directing its limited land, power and water resources towards high-value digital infrastructure. Why have data centres become so important?
