    The Enemy Attacks the Church

This sermon examines the final chapter of 1 Samuel as a theological illustration of the spiritual warfare between God's people and their enemies. It argues that the defeat of Saul and his sons represents the enemy's attack on the visible church, utilizing physical violence, false doctrine, and the targeting of leadership. The message emphasizes that while the enemy operates with malice and arrogance, their actions are strictly limited by the sovereign permission of God, who uses such events to fulfill His divine purposes. By contrasting the fall of the house of Saul with the enduring rise of the house of David, the sermon reassures believers that the kingdom of God advances despite temporary setbacks. Ultimately, it calls for a posture of trust in God's control rather than fear of human opposition, pointing to Christ as the greater David whose victory is eternal.

Jesus Prays for the Christian's Needs

This sermon explores the high priestly prayer of Jesus in John 17, highlighting four specific needs He intercedes for on behalf of believers, praying for their needs: preservation, patience, perspective, and purity. The message emphasizes that true perseverance is not achieved through human strength but is secured by God's power, ensuring that those who are truly born again will endure to the end. It addresses the necessity of maintaining a Christ-centred joy that enables patience amidst suffering and worldly opposition, contrasting the transient nature of worldly pleasures with the immutable character of God. Furthermore, the sermon provides an eternal perspective on the believer's presence in the world, affirming that trials serve a holy purpose in sanctifying the soul through the Word of God. Ultimately, the focus rests on the believer's call to holiness, urging a life saturated with Scripture to be conformed to the image of Christ and to glorify God in all circumstances.

    The Duty of the Ministry

This sermon explores the solemn obligations of Gospel Ministry and the broader body of Christ, anchored in 1 Timothy 4:14-16. The message outlines four key duties: developing one's God-given gifts, declaring truth through proper church governance and ordination, devoting oneself wholly to spiritual growth and meditation, and delivering souls through faithful preaching and personal example. It emphasises that such Ministry is not a self-appointed role but a divinely ordained calling recognized by the presbytery, wider Church government and court, requiring both intellectual rigour and personal holiness on the part of the Gospel Minister. Ultimately, the sermon calls for a collective commitment to serve the body of Christ, ensuring that both the Minister and the congregation are saved and edified by faith in the revelation of God's Word.

    God Preserves David

This sermon examines 1 Samuel 30 to illustrate how God preserves His people through the four stages of restlessness, reception, restoration, and enrichment. It highlights David's struggle with worldly distractions and the resulting loss of his family, emphasizing that true peace is found only in God rather than in earthly circumstances. The message draws a typological parallel between David and Jesus Christ, presenting Christ as the greater David who fully restores what was lost in Eden and defeats the enemy of death. By encouraging believers to seek strength through prayer and faith, the sermon affirms that despite present suffering, God provides ultimate victory and unsearchable spiritual riches through union with Christ.

    Philadelphia: The Persevering Church

This sermon examines the letter to the church in Philadelphia, highlighting it as a model of perseverance that received exclusive praise from Christ. The central message emphasizes that believers should seek the approval of God rather than the praise of men, maintaining consistency in faith, duty, and service despite limited strength or external opposition. The exposition identifies three key aspects of this perseverance: the recognition of their works by the Lord, the responsibility to enter open doors of service and hold fast to biblical doctrine, and the ultimate reward of seeing enemies converted and being established as pillars in God's temple. The tone is pastoral and encouraging, urging the congregation to remain steadfast in a hostile world, trusting that God opens doors for the advancement of the gospel and keeps His people from final apostasy.

    The Wonderful Love of Christ

This sermon explores the profound friendship between David and Jonathan as a typological shadow of Christ's relationship with His people. The central message emphasizes that believers should meditate on the existence, evidence, expression, and extent of Christ's love, which surpasses all earthly affections. By examining Jonathan's provision, protection, and promotion of David, the text illustrates how Christ provides righteousness, mediates against divine wrath, and establishes an unbreakable covenant of grace. The tone is pastoral and comforting, urging the audience to find joy and security in the knowledge that they are personally loved by the Son of God. This love is presented not merely as a past historical fact but as a present, daily source of strength and motivation for holy living.

TBS Update 24/10/2026: Supporting Bible Translation Around the World

This talk addresses the global spiritual famine caused by the lack of accurate, complete, and accessible Scripture in many languages. It highlights the theological necessity of faithful translation, arguing that omitting key doctrines or verses results in a distorted witness to the Gospel. The speaker outlines the work of the Trinitarian Bible Society in translating, printing, and distributing Bibles to unreached and remote communities, emphasising that spiritual nourishment requires the Word in the mother tongue of the people. Through examples of recent translation projects and distribution efforts, the talk underscores the urgency of providing labourers and resources to ensure that millions can read the living Word of God for their salvation.
