Blood & Guts Podcast

Annie McCallum & Milli Craven

Blood and Guts exists to make women feel less alone in the real, messy, and often unspoken parts of womanhood. Periods. Bodies. Food. Shame. Cycles. Self-love and everything in between. We’re creating a sisterhood where women can share, laugh, learn, and own their stories. Leaving lighter, more connected, and reminded that no woman was ever meant to do this alone. We are not here as experts or gurus. Just two women with lived experience, open conversations, and a whole lot of guts.

    What is a healthy cycle?

How do you actually know if your menstrual cycle is healthy? Is period pain normal? What about PMS? Should your cycle be the same length every month? And what is your body trying to tell you when something changes? These are the questions we wish someone had answered years ago. In this episode, we break down the menstrual cycle in a way that’s simple, empowering, and easy to understand. We chat about what a healthy cycle actually looks like, why so many women have been taught to accept symptoms that deserve attention, and how our modern world often works against the female body. Milli's Story: Food, Shame & Perfectionism

This week, it’s Milli’s turn to share her story. From growing up as a dancer and high achiever to being diagnosed with anorexia nervosa, Milli opens up about the years she spent chasing perfection and believing that being smaller would somehow make her happier, safer, or more worthy. Together, we explore how our relationship with food and our bodies is shaped by the world around us, and why so many women spend years trying to become someone they’re not, all in the hope of finally feeling “enough.” Milli shares the experiences that led to her eating disorder, what recovery really looked like, and how learning to let go of perfection became one of the greatest acts of self-love. In this episode, we cover: Growing up as a perfectionist, dancer and high achiever. How diet culture and social media influenced her relationship with food. The reality of living with anorexia nervosa. Why eating disorders are about so much more than food. The journey of recovery, healing and learning to trust herself again. How her experience inspired her work helping women build a healthier relationship with movement, food and their bodies. This episode is a gentle reminder that for so many women, the desire to be smaller isn’t really about the body. It’s about wanting to feel accepted, loved, in control, or enough. If you’ve ever looked in the mirror and felt like your body was something to fix, we hope this conversation reminds you that you are enough. Annie's Story: Addiction, Finance, Yoga & Blood

This week, the spotlight is on Annie. From partying her way through Melbourne’s nightclub scene, to climbing the corporate ladder in finance, to quitting it all to start her own business… Annie’s path has been anything but conventional. In this episode, Annie shares the messy, honest, and often unexpected journey that led her to create Flow in Cycle and ultimately co-create Blood & Guts. We talk about what it felt like to be completely disconnected from herself, using partying and hard drugs to escape, chasing success that didn’t feel like her own, and later believing she was doing everything “right” only for her health to completely fall apart. When Annie’s periods became heavy, painful, irregular and completely unrecognisable, she found herself searching for answers that no one seemed able to give. That search led her down a path of learning about the menstrual cycle, reconnecting with her body, and discovering a version of health that had nothing to do with perfection. In this episode, we cover: Growing up as a gymnast and feeling lost after school. The party years, addiction, and searching for purpose.Life in corporate finance and why it never felt like home.Finding yoga and redefining what health really means. The hormonal symptoms that changed everything. How learning about her menstrual cycle transformed her relationship with her body. The journey that led to creating Flow in Cycle. This episode is a reminder that your story doesn’t have to make sense while you’re living it. Sometimes it’s only when you look back that you realise every chapter was leading you exactly where you were meant to be. If Annie’s story resonates with you, we’d love you to share this episode with someone who might need the reminder that it’s never too late to change direction. Welcome to Blood & Guts

Welcome to Blood & Guts. If you’ve made it here… you’re our kind of woman. 🩸 In this very first episode, we’re introducing ourselves, sharing how we met, and telling the story behind why this podcast exists. What started as two women opening up about our own experiences quickly became something much bigger. We realised that, despite our age difference and completely different life journeys, we’d both carried shame around things that should never have been shameful in the first place. Periods. Bodies. Food. Sex. Mental health. The list goes on. And the more we talked, the more we realised we weren’t alone. That’s exactly why we created Blood & Guts. We also unpack the meaning behind the name and why we’re reclaiming a phrase once associated with battlefields to represent something completely different. Because our Blood isn’t something to hide, and it takes real Guts to live in a world that constantly tells women to be quieter, smaller, and less. In this episode, we cover: How we met and the friendship that brought us here. Why we instantly connected through our stories. The reason this podcast had to exist. Why so many conversations about women’s bodies are still considered “too much.”What you can expect from future episodes… and trust us, nothing is off limits.Whether you’re here for the education, the laughs, the occasional overshare, or because you’re tired of feeling like you’re the only one going through it, we’re so glad you’re here. Grab a cuppa, chuck your headphones in, and join us. Welcome to the sisterhood. We’re so bloody glad you found us. 🤍 Connect with us on instagram @bloodngutspodcast
