"I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." These are some of the most beautiful and hopeful words Jesus ever spoke. But what does He truly mean by this "abundant life"? Is it about success, happiness, or something far deeper—the very life of God Himself, overflowing in the hearts of all who follow Him. In this episode, we explore one of Jesus' most beloved promises, found in John 10:10. Jesus contrasts His mission with that of the "thief" who "comes only to steal and kill and destroy." His purpose, in contrast, is to give life—not just existence, but a life of fullness and richness. The Greek word for "abundantly" means "over and above, more than enough, extraordinary, or exceptionally abundant." This is not merely about material prosperity or uninterrupted happiness. The abundant life Jesus offers is deeply spiritual—a life characterized by forgiveness, peace, purpose, and a relationship with God that fills every void. This abundant life begins with receiving Christ Himself, for He is the source of all life. The early church father Irenaeus put it this way: "The glory of God is a living man, and the life of man is the vision of God." Abundant life, then, is not found in accumulating things but in being filled with the Spirit, who produces love, joy, peace, and patience within us (Galatians 5:22-23). It is a life of freedom from sin's power, of walking in newness of life, and of participating in God's very nature (2 Peter 1:4). It does not mean the absence of hardship—Jesus Himself wept, suffered, and faced the cross—but it means a deep, unshakable peace that remains even in the storms of life. This is a powerful invitation to not merely exist, but to truly live—to experience the "fullness" of what it means to be loved, known, and held by the Creator of the universe.
