The Wondering Way Podcast

Jocelyn and Heidi

We’re Heidi and Jocelyn: two friends who have lots of questions about God, faith, and life. This podcast is about asking the questions that we’re often too afraid to ask out loud.  Each episode, we’ll explore a topic or question related to the Christian faith, spirituality, or life that we’re curious about, and we’ll likely discuss some of the books that are sparking our thoughts.  We hope that you’ll find encouragement in our “wonderings” and that you might give yourself permission to ask hard questions too.

Episode 2: How Can We Read Scripture to Be Transformed, Not Just Informed?

Reading the Bible is one thing, but allowing it to change us is another. In this episode, we're exploring what we're actually meant to do with what we learn as we spend time in God's Word. Is the goal simply to gain more knowledge, or is Scripture inviting us into a deeper transformation? We also wrestle with questions many Christians may also wonder with: Should we read books besides the Bible? (If you missed it, this builds on our conversation about discernment in Episode 1.) What if we're afraid of "getting it wrong"?How do we engage Scripture beyond simply reading the words on the page? Are we trying to manage or control our own spiritual growth instead of surrendering to the work of the Holy Spirit? Are we truly open to God teaching us something new?Together, we discuss what it looks like to approach Scripture with humility, expectancy, and a willingness to be formed by God rather than simply collecting information about Him. Spiritual growth isn't something we manufacture. But it's something we participate in as we make space for God to transform us. Books mentioned in this episode: Sacred Pathways — Gary ThomasThe Spirit of the Disciplines — Dallas WillardIf you've ever wondered whether there's more to reading the Bible than checking a box or completing a study plan, this conversation is an invitation to slow down, listen well, and allow God's Word to shape your heart as much as your mind.
