    The Ghost Girl of Blue Heights Church

    Long before the Foxfire books preserved the voices of Southern Appalachia, the people of Rabun County, Georgia passed their history from one generation to the next through stories. Many believed the mountains were home to more than just farmers, churches, and old homesteads. They were also home to haints, lingering spirits, and unexplained encounters. In this episode, we explore the history and culture of Rabun County at the turn of the twentieth century, the traditions and superstitions that shaped mountain life, and the remarkable Foxfire Project that recorded these stories before they were lost. Then we visit Blue Heights Baptist Church, where one local woman recalled seeing the ghost of a little girl, a story that has echoed through the mountains for generations.
