    A woman in eastern Kentucky, a dark two-lane road, and five weeks of something keeping pace with her car. Her dog knew before she did. She asked me not to give it a name. I read her account exactly as she wrote it, then went digging: real maps of the KY 172 corridor, newspaper archives that go back further than she expected, and every animal answer that should have worked.
