Try to trick your brain (Levantine Arabic)

In this episode, we use natural Syrian Arabic to explore how to trick your brain into starting the tasks you keep postponing. Beginning with my own failed attempt to take up running, I discuss three reasons behind procrastination and practical ways to make work, study, and exercise easier to begin.I begin with a familiar story: I buy running shoes and a workout outfit, plan to wake up at eight, then use the cold and cloudy weather as reasons to wait until tomorrow. Before I know it, I have postponed the first run for about two weeks. From my own point of view, I explore three reasons we delay useful tasks: unpleasant feelings, fear of damaging our self-image, and overestimating how difficult the task will be. I then share practical ideas from my experience, including preparing the right environment, removing distractions, beginning with something easy, and accepting that our work does not need to be perfect. This episode gives Syrian Arabic and Levantine Arabic learners focused listening practice through natural Syrian/Damascene speech, clear English translation, and useful everyday expressions about routines, exercise, studying, emotions, motivation, and procrastination. You will learn useful Syrian Arabic words and expressions such as:- رواق — calm / relaxed; at a relaxed pace- مية بالمية — one hundred percent / absolutely- الكلام أسهل من الفعل — easier said than done- ملتزم — committed / consistent- متعود — used to / accustomed to- بالعكس — on the contrary / quite the opposite- يا دوب — barely / only just- تسويف — procrastinationSupport the podcast on Patreon to get the full transcript, English translation, and Anki flashcards for this episode.Question of the episode:What task have you been postponing, and what small step could help you start it today?Which do you find easiest to put off: exercise, studying, or housework?Write your answer in the comments and practice your Syrian Arabic with us.- Listen on Spotify:https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/arabic-from-arabs- Listen on Apple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/arabic-from-arabs/id6799542325- Follow us on Instagram:https://instagram.com/arabicfromarabs?igshid=MzNlNGNkZWQ4Mg==- Get the transcript file:https://patreon.com/ArabicfromArabs?utm_medium=unknown&utm_source=join_link&utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator&utm_content=copyLink- Join our courses:https://italki.com/i/reft/Hf6BGH/Hf6BGH/arabic(levantine)?hl=en#SyrianArabic #LevantineArabic #LearnArabic #ArabicPodcast #DamasceneArabic #ArabicFromArabs #Procrastination #Exercise #Studying #TimeManagement

    Prioritization (Levantine Arabic)

In this episode, we explore prioritization through natural Syrian Arabic and a familiar problem: starting the day with energy, then freezing when too many tasks compete for attention. I share a simple way to decide what matters first, protect our focus, and turn an overwhelming list into a workable plan.We begin with a relatable scene: someone opens a laptop ready to be productive, remembers unanswered emails, a presentation, and a friend who needs help, then sits frozen as the tea goes cold. The problem is not laziness; it is a distracted, overwhelmed mind trying to hold too many demands at once.I explain how prioritization makes the workload clear: write every task down, rank it by importance, decide what can realistically be finished today, and postpone the rest. We use three practical questions to identify what matters most, what is hardest, and what will take the most time. This episode gives Syrian Arabic and Levantine Arabic learners focused listening practice through natural Syrian/Damascene speech, clear English translation, and useful everyday expressions about work, focus, organization, and feeling overwhelmed. You will learn useful Syrian Arabic words and expressions such as:- لهيك اختصرو على حالهن الوقت والجهد وضياعة الطاقة — So they save themselves time and effort and avoid wasting their energy.- وقررو انهن يتعاملو مع القصص حسب أولويتها وأهميتها لإلهن. — They decide to deal with things according to their priority and importance to them.- شو أهم شي بالنسبة إلي من هي المهام ؟ — Which of these tasks is the most important to me?- ولا تنسو المتل الشعبي يلي بقول " ما فيك تحمل بطيختين بإيد وحدة " — And do not forget the popular saying: ...You cannot carry two watermelons in one hand....- صافِنْ — staring into space- مْشَتَّتْ — distracted- مْكَرْكَبْ — overwhelmed/jumbled- تَرْتِيبْ الأَوْلَوِيَّاتْ — prioritizationSupport the podcast on Patreon to get the full transcript, English translation, and Anki flashcards for this episode.Question of the episode:What task deserves to be your first priority today? How do you decide what to do first when everything feels important?Write your answer in the comments and practice your Syrian Arabic with us.- Listen on Spotify:https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/arabic-from-arabs- Follow us on Instagram:https://instagram.com/arabicfromarabs?igshid=MzNlNGNkZWQ4Mg==- Get the transcript file:https://patreon.com/ArabicfromArabs?utm_medium=unknown&utm_source=join_link&utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator&utm_content=copyLink- Join our courses:https://italki.com/i/reft/Hf6BGH/Hf6BGH/arabic(levantine)?hl=en#SyrianArabic #LevantineArabic #LearnArabic #ArabicPodcast #DamasceneArabic #ArabicFromArabs #Prioritization #TaskPlanning #Focus #Organization
