Why Food Cravings Keep Coming Back (And What Actually Helps)

Struggling with food cravings or sugar cravings that feel impossible to control? This episode explores why cravings do not automatically mean you are a food or sugar addict, and what your body may be trying to communicate. I share lessons from 23 years of health coaching, my personal experience with restrictive food plans and recovery groups, and my training as a certified somatic trauma-informed holistic health coach with a background in naturopathy and clinical nutrition. You’ll learn how factors such as inadequate sleep, hydration, electrolytes, undernourishment, changing protein or fat needs, mental restriction, emotional restriction, stress, and social disconnection may influence cravings for highly palatable or ultra-processed foods. I also explain how rigid food rules can affect body trust, self-trust, food noise, and your relationship with food. Rather than treating every craving as proof that something is wrong, this conversation encourages curiosity about your body signals, flexible nutrition, appropriate medical evaluation when needed, and a more individualized approach to nourishment without shame, fear, or unnecessary restriction around everyday eating. ↘️ 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐂𝐓 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 ME: ▶ Visit My Website: https://heathermhewett.com/ ▶ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/heather.hewett.2025/?rdid=p1j0XlSFfrdGPYQs ▶ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@heathermhewett ▶ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/heathermhewett ▶ Threads: https://www.threads.com/@heathermhewett

EFT Tapping for Anxiety: Why Thinking Isn’t Enough

EFT tapping for anxiety can help you understand why your body may still feel unsafe, even when your mind knows you are okay. If you’ve ever tried to talk yourself out of anxiety, fear, stress, or emotional overwhelm and still couldn’t calm down, this episode will help you understand what may be happening in your nervous system. Hi, my name is Heather Hewett. I'm a certified somatic trauma-informed holistic health coach with a background in naturopathy and clinical nutrition. I explain how Emotional Freedom Technique works as a body-based tool for nervous system regulation and emotional resilience. You’ll learn why emotions can feel stuck in the body, how tapping on acupressure points supports calming, and why acknowledging what you feel often works better than forcing positive thinking too soon. This episode also explores the 0 to 10 emotional intensity scale, primary emotions like fear and anger, psychological reversal, fight-or-flight activation, parasympathetic calm, affirmations, and creating new neural pathways through safe, supportive statements. If you’re curious about somatic healing, EFT tapping, anxiety relief, emotional regulation, or learning how to feel safe in your body again, this conversation offers a grounded starting point. ↘️ 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐂𝐓 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 ME: ▶ Visit My Website: https://heathermhewett.com/ ▶ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/heather.hewett.2025/?rdid=p1j0XlSFfrdGPYQs ▶ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@heathermhewett ▶ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/heathermhewett ▶ Threads: https://www.threads.com/@heathermhewett

The Hidden Reason You Repeat the Same Painful Patterns

Why do you keep repeating the same patterns, even when you know they are hurting you? It may not be a willpower problem. In this episode, I explain how learned survival patterns can influence relationships, boundaries, people pleasing, perfectionism, emotional eating, and other emotional habits. 👉 You will learn: ✅ Why emotional and relationship patterns repeat ✅ How nervous system regulation affects behaviour ✅ Why calm can feel uncomfortable after chaos ✅ How childhood experiences may shape adult relationships ✅ Why self-criticism can intensify shame ✅ How compassion and safety can support lasting change Familiar does not always mean safe, and discomfort does not always mean danger. Why You Crave Sugar at Night and How Your Body Is Trying to Help You

Why do you crave sugar at night, especially after eating “well” or being “good” with food all day? Nighttime sugar cravings are not always a willpower problem. For some people, cravings for chocolate, cookies, ice cream, cake, cereal, or refined carbohydrates may be connected to under-fuelling, skipped meals, restrictive eating, stress, poor sleep, emotional exhaustion, or using food for comfort and relief at the end of a demanding day. In this episode, I explore emotional eating at night through a compassionate, trauma-informed, non-diet lens. Rather than shaming yourself for craving sweets after dinner, this conversation invites you to become curious about what your body and emotions may need. ⬇️ In this video, you will learn: ✅ Why nighttime sugar cravings can feel strongest at the end of the day ✅ How dieting, fasting, skipped meals, and under-eating may increase cravings ✅ Why stress, emotional exhaustion, and poor sleep can make sugar feel comforting ✅ How food can become a reward, distraction, relief, or learned comfort pattern ✅ Why being “good” with food all day can sometimes lead to intense cravings at night ✅ Questions to ask before judging yourself for eating sweets I am a trauma-informed holistic health coach with a background in naturopathy and clinical nutrition. On this channel, I explore nervous-system regulation, emotional resilience, food freedom, emotional eating, and healing your relationship with food in a way that honours your body. If you regularly feel out of control around food, binge eat, purge, heavily restrict food, or experience significant distress around eating, please consider reaching out to an appropriately qualified healthcare professional, registered dietitian, or mental-health professional for personalised support. How to Let Go of Emotional Baggage Without Ignoring Your Past

How to let go of emotional baggage without pretending it never happened. If you feel emotionally exhausted, heavy, stuck, or unable to rest, you may be carrying more than you realize. Sometimes exhaustion is not only about what you are doing. It can also come from what you are carrying: guilt, grief, resentment, disappointment, rejection, or old stories that still feel heavy. In this episode, I explore emotional baggage through a gentle, trauma-informed, nervous-system-aware lens. Letting go does not mean forgetting, condoning, or minimizing what happened. It means beginning to loosen its emotional grip so it does not keep taking your energy. 📌 In this video, you will explore: ✅ What emotional baggage can look like ✅ Why emotional exhaustion may feel like a motivation problem ✅ How overthinking, people-pleasing, and perfectionism can become protective patterns ✅ The difference between remembering and reliving ✅ A simple 1% reflection practice 👉 Ask yourself: What am I carrying? What is it costing me? Am I ready to loosen my grip, even by 1%? 👉 Comment below: What would it feel like to let go by 1% today?
