The Conflict Archive Dialogues

The Archive Network

The Conflict Archive Dialogues is part of The Archive Network by Jonkai Ventures, a collection of podcasts dedicated to the stories that shaped our world.    Every episode is a conversation. Aurelius and Malik, curators of The Conflict Archive, take a single war — the Seven Years' War, the English Civil War, the Invasion of Poland, Afghanistan 2001-2021 — and follow it from the first grievance to the terms of the peace. One lays out how it was fought and decided: the alliance that held, the supply line that didn't, the choice that only looks obvious afterwards. The other presses on what the campaign map leaves out — who was conscripted, what the victory actually settled, and what it merely postponed.    These are not summaries. Each episode is one complete war, examined from both sides in a single sitting. The Archive Network is an independent, solo-run project. Every archive, podcast and documentary is free — no ads, no paywalls. Falklands War

Under the slate skies of the South Atlantic, a forgotten cluster of islands waits in silence, battered by wind and memory. No one imagined these lonely shores would soon ignite a global crisis—one that would shake governments, topple regimes, and claim lives on both sides of the world. But now, as winter deepens, the fuse is burning. In the long shadow of empire, the Falkland Islands—known as the Malvinas in Argentina—have always been remote, windswept, and fiercely disputed. For over a century, Britain held them, while Argentina never let go of its claim. To many, these islands were just a footnote in history—a place for sheep pastures and stubborn settlers. But beneath the surface, old wounds were festering.Aurelius and Malik take on this case in full — 5 chapters, 32 minutes, one complete story.Learn more at: https://theconflictarchive.com/conflict/falklands-warThe Conflict Archive Dialogues is part of The Archive Network by Jonkai Ventures. Italian Wars

Imagine the air thick with tension, the kind that makes every footstep echo with dread. In late fifteenth-century Italy, beneath the brilliance of Renaissance cities, something dangerous was stirring—a gathering storm that no one could ignore. The glitter and glory of Italy’s city-states masked a web of rivalry and fear, and soon, the world would watch as ambition turned to war. Italy at the end of the fourteen hundreds was a land of dazzling contrasts. Picture the domes of Florence shining in the sun, the markets of Venice overflowing with silk and silver, and the ancient walls of Rome towering above the crowds. But look closer. The Medici in Florence, the Sforza in Milan, the Aragonese in Naples, and the Pope himself—all plotted and schemed, each hungry for power. Alliances shifted with the wind. Trust was rare. Underneath the surface, people lived with constant unease, knowing that the wealth and beauty of their cities drew the envy of kings beyond the Alps.Aurelius and Malik take on this case in full — 5 chapters, 35 minutes, one complete story.Learn more at: https://theconflictarchive.com/conflict/italian-warsThe Conflict Archive Dialogues is part of The Archive Network by Jonkai Ventures. Italian-Turkish War

Smoke and dust swirl over the Mediterranean as two worlds collide. Italy’s restless ambition presses against the fading power of the Ottoman Empire. In the alleys of Tripoli and the halls of Rome, everyone waits for a spark that could set the desert ablaze. The early twentieth century is a time of hungry dreams and old empires. Italy, barely fifty years old as a nation, watches Britain, France, and Germany seize Africa’s riches. The Ottoman Empire, once mighty, now clings to its last provinces in North Africa. Libya, with its ancient coasts, stands at the crossroads. In Rome, politicians and nationalists demand a place in the imperial sun. Newspapers shout about lost Roman provinces and promise easy glory. But under the bravado, anxiety creeps in. The Ottomans have lost ground in the Balkans, yet they guard Tripolitania and Cyrenaica with stubborn pride. Their orders from Istanbul drift over the sands but rarely take hold in the tangled streets of Tripoli.Aurelius and Malik take on this case in full — 5 chapters, 32 minutes, one complete story.Learn more at: https://theconflictarchive.com/conflict/italian-turkish-warThe Conflict Archive Dialogues is part of The Archive Network by Jonkai Ventures. Pacific War

Tensions simmered beneath the surface of East Asia, waiting for a spark. The ambitions of an empire were about to clash with the resolve of another, leading to unimaginable conflict. In the decades before the Pacific War, Japan transformed from an isolated island nation into an ambitious power. The military elite cast their eyes on China and Southeast Asia, eager for resources to fuel their empire. But the United States stood ready to resist, warning Japan against aggression. As the world faced economic turmoil, Japan’s hunger for expansion only grew, setting the stage for a catastrophic clash.Aurelius and Malik take on this case in full — 5 chapters, 32 minutes, one complete story.Learn more at: https://theconflictarchive.com/conflict/pacific-warThe Conflict Archive Dialogues is part of The Archive Network by Jonkai Ventures. Ethiopian-Eritrean War

Dust swirls over forgotten markers as uneasy neighbors scan the horizon, each heartbeat echoing with the memory of war. In the lands between Ethiopia and Eritrea, the past never truly sleeps. Shadows move where borders blur, and fear can flare with a single spark.Imagine waking to find your world changed overnight—a new fence, a blocked well, the laughter of children silenced by distant gunfire. This is Badme, a crossroads of memory and suspicion, where the weight of history presses on every step. In nineteen ninety-one, Eritrean fighters celebrated in Asmara after driving out the Derg dictatorship. Ethiopia, under Meles Zenawi, recognized Eritrean independence in nineteen ninety-three. For a moment, hope glimmered. But the border remained a wound, never clearly drawn, where villages, wells, and market roads followed the tangled lines of old maps and older grievances. Each morning, farmers from both sides led their cattle to graze, always watching for uniforms that did not belong. Children fetched water, their games interrupted by sudden patrols. The land was quiet, but never truly safe. The peace, it turned out, was as fragile as the dry soil beneath their feet.Aurelius and Malik take on this case in full — 5 chapters, 35 minutes, one complete story.Learn more at: https://theconflictarchive.com/conflict/ethiopian-eritrean-warThe Conflict Archive Dialogues is part of The Archive Network by Jonkai Ventures.
