DoomForged: How Our Reputation Becomes The Real Product | Creative Business and Community

What we leave behind isn't just the work we made, but the reputation we built while making it. In this episode, Tyler and Steve continue the conversation from Episode 9 by looking at what sustainable creative work actually looks like in practice. We talk about staying capable without becoming completely dependent on technology, building creative businesses that can adapt, and why developing practical skills matters as much as developing creative talent. Steve shares why Sacrament Tattoo is visiting schools and career fairs to help young artists understand what a healthy apprenticeship can look like, avoid exploitative training paths, and develop the skills they need to eventually work for themselves. We also explore community, legacy, and the reputation that develops through years of consistent work. From the story of a longtime local hairdresser who served his community for decades to the role culture and character play in building a brand, we ask what actually makes a creative business worth remembering. The conversation returns to AI and creative marketing, questioning whether the content a business puts into the world actually reflects the people, values, and communities behind it. We close with updates from Sacrament Tattoo's drawing newsletter and Tyler's upcoming cassette release. Behind the Mask: The Cost of Creating for Validation | Art, Algorithms, & Self-Doubt

What happens when the numbers become the measure of your work? In Episode 10 of Behind the Mask, Tyler and Joseph continue the conversation around self-doubt, self-compassion, and the pressure creatives place on themselves. The harsh inner voice doesn't simply disappear. Instead, we talk about learning to recognize where it comes from, question the patterns behind it, and turn it into something more useful. That conversation leads into a deeper look at control, personal desires, and the small choices that shape who we become. We share personal experiences with changing unhealthy patterns and learning to focus less on controlling the outcome and more on the effort we can bring each day. From there, we turn back to creativity and the digital landscape. Social media, algorithms, numbers, and instant feedback can make it easy to measure meaningful work by metrics that were never designed to measure meaning. When the numbers become the goal, it's easy to lose sight of why we started creating in the first place. Meaningful work isn't always perfect, popular, or understood immediately. Sometimes the most human part of making something is leaving the imperfections in, continuing through doubt, and choosing to create again tomorrow. Behind the Mask is where we peel back the aesthetic of the modern working artist. Part of MossNet, connecting with creative business owners around the world to share the ideas shaping it. DoomForged: What Lasting Creative Work Is Built On | Skill, Character, AI, and Work Culture

Lasting creative work isn't built on shortcuts. It's built on skill, character, trust, and the willingness to keep showing up. In this episode, Tyler and Steve start by celebrating two artists from Sacrament Tattoo being invited to the Brighton Tattoo Convention, which leads into a larger conversation about what it takes to build a healthy creative workplace. We talk about apprenticeships, developing younger artists, creating self-sufficient teams, and building a culture where people feel trusted enough to take real ownership of their work. From there, the conversation turns toward AI and its growing role in tattooing, design, and the creative industries. We both see practical value in AI when it helps with technical or repetitive tasks, but question what happens when it becomes a shortcut for the parts of creative work that require skill, judgment, originality, and personal responsibility. At the center of both conversations is the same question: what are we actually building? Whether you're developing a creative business, working alongside other artists, or deciding how to use new technology, the foundation matters. Lasting creative work and strong creative communities are built through skill, care, character, and consistency. DoomForged: What We Start Doesn't End with Us | Building the Future of Something Meaningful

We never had a roadmap, and we're still figuring out where this goes. In this episode, Tyler and Steve look toward the future of DoomForged and what it means to build something that can continue evolving as more people, ideas, and experiences become part of it. We talk about inspiring the next generation of creatives, creating opportunities outside of traditional career paths, and making room for other people to bring their own perspectives into the creative process. We reflect on the mistakes we've made, the lessons we've learned, and why sharing those experiences doesn't mean telling someone else how to live or build their career. There is a difference between giving someone your answers and giving them enough perspective to find their own. We also talk about how encouraging other creatives feeds back into our own work. Every new perspective has the potential to challenge what we believe, change what we're creating, and take the conversation somewhere we couldn't have reached on our own. DoomForged has never been about having everything figured out. It's about continuing to build, staying open to what comes next, and allowing what we create together to evolve beyond what we originally imagined. This is DoomForged, where we create meaning from the chaos around us. The world may be burning, but we are still building.
