Episode 8: AI Anxiety and the Future of Work

AI is changing. Work is changing. And people are being asked to adapt to both, often while carrying more uncertainty than leaders realize. In this Human Capacity SITREP™, Dr. Kim Hires examines AI anxiety and the future of work through the lens of Adaptive Capacity. From increasingly capable AI agents and workplace adoption to labor-market uncertainty and lessons from previous technological transitions, this episode asks leaders to consider what responsible AI adoption actually requires of the humans expected to carry it. Because training can answer, “How do I use AI?” Leadership must also help answer: “Where do I fit?” And if AI creates efficiencies, another question matters: What happens to the human capacity it supposedly saves? The future of work is not only a technology question. It is a Human Capacity question. Continue the conversation at TheNightingaleFirm.com. Episode 7: Burnout Is An Outcome, Not the Beginning of the Story

Burnout is real. Burnout is measurable. But burnout is often not where the story begins. In this episode of The Human Capacity Advantage™, Dr. Kim Hires takes the conversation upstream, examining what happens before burnout becomes the visible outcome. Drawing from burnout research, Conservation of Resources theory, and the Human Capacity Advantage System™, she explores how chronic load, resource loss, and normalized overextension can quietly erode capacity while people continue to perform. The leadership question isn't only, “Is this person burned out?” It is also: What have they been carrying and for how long? Because burnout is an outcome. And outcomes have histories. Episode 6: Where Is Your Capacity Today?

Before you commit your energy, attention, patience, or judgment this week, ask one question: Where is my capacity today? In this Monday Morning Capacity Check™, Dr. Kim Hires guides you through a quick assessment of seven areas of human capacity to identify where you may need greater protection, support, or adjustment. You will leave with one practical action for approaching the week based on the capacity you actually have, not the capacity you assume you should have. Seven areas. Seven numbers. One action. Check capacity before you commit capacity. Disclaimer: The Human Capacity Advantage™ is provided for educational and informational purposes only. Episode 1: What If We Have Been Measuring the Wrong Thing?

In this inaugural episode of The Human Capacity Advantage™, Dr. Kim Hires examines one of the most persistent assumptions in organizational life: that sustainable performance can be understood primarily through productivity, engagement, and results. Organizations measure what people produce, but often pay far less attention to the human capacity that produces those outcomes. Drawing from Industrial-Organizational Psychology, the Job Demands-Resources Model, leadership research, and her experience as a scientist, executive advisor, and organizational consultant, Dr. Kim introduces the seven dimensions of Human Capacity: cognitive, emotional, physical, behavioral, relational, professional, and adaptive. This episode explores the relationship between leadership, burnout, workplace well-being, organizational culture, and sustainable performance. It also presents a different understanding of leadership: not simply the management of work, but the stewardship of the people doing it. The Human Capacity Advantage™ is a podcast for leaders, professionals, organizations, and anyone interested in building workplaces where people can perform well without sacrificing their capacity to live well. New episodes of The Human Capacity Advantage™ Podcast are released every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Continue the conversation at TheNightingaleFirm.com.
