    The Western Edge: The Last Church Stand—77 Years of Tradition + Choose Well To Live Well

    This week on Western Edge, Leisa Fox and Chris Nelson start with "Around Here," highlighting what's happening across Central Iowa. With the Iowa State Fair underway, Des Moines Restaurant Week offering plenty of reasons to try something new, and more happening throughout the metro, they have your guide to getting out and enjoying what's around here. Then we head to the Iowa State Fair with Western Edge guest Mike Plymale, who helps organize the volunteers behind the United Methodist Church food stand in West Des Moines. Now in its 77th year, the stand carries on a remarkable tradition of service and community. It also holds a unique place in Fair history as the last remaining church food stand at the Iowa State Fair. Mike shares more about the people who make it possible, the behind-the-scenes volunteer effort, and what has kept this tradition going for generations. We also continue with "Choose Well to Live Well," featuring Rachel Flint of Hubbell Homes. Rachel explores why finding the right home goes far beyond square footage, finishes, or the number of bedrooms. Where you live shapes how you spend your time, connect with others, and experience your everyday life.
