EP 9: The Hidden Cost of Burnout: What Staying in Survival Mode Is Really Costing You

What is burnout really costing you? We talk a lot about the exhaustion, overwhelm, brain fog, chronic fatigue, and stress that come with burnout. But what about everything burnout quietly takes from your life? In this final episode of my Return To Self Live Series, we explore the hidden emotional and potential financial costs of staying in survival mode—and why "I'll deal with it later" can become a pattern that keeps you from fully experiencing your life. We'll talk about: ✨ The excuses that keep us from taking action✨ What we're actually afraid of when it comes to changing✨ What we believe we might lose if we prioritize ourselves✨ The emotional cost of chronic overextension and burnout✨ How burnout can affect relationships, joy, identity, confidence, and presence✨ The potential financial cost of remaining in an unsustainable cycle✨ Why the cost of staying stuck deserves just as much consideration as the cost of changing✨ What becomes possible when we stop abandoning ourselves If you're the responsible one, caretaker, perfectionist, people pleaser, high achiever, or strong one who has spent years putting everyone else first, this conversation is an invitation to consider a different question: What if you stopped asking only, "What will it cost me to change?" and started asking, "What is it costing me not to?" 💜 Return To Self 1:1 Coaching Applications for my 6-week Return To Self coaching program are open through August 28, 2026. If you're a woman living with burnout, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, or an autoimmune illness and you're ready to address the deeper patterns keeping you stuck in survival mode, you can apply and book a next-step call here: https://julieajamison.com/return-to-self If this episode resonates with you, follow the podcast, leave a review, and share it with a woman who needs to hear this conversation.

EP 8: You Know Why You're In Burnout… So Why Can't You Change? | Insight vs. Real Change

You know you're a people pleaser. You know you need boundaries. You know you're in burnout. So why is it still so hard to change? In this episode, we explore why insight alone doesn't create change—and why understanding your trauma, burnout, nervous system, people pleasing, perfectionism, or survival patterns isn't necessarily enough to create a different life. I'll break down the missing pieces between awareness and lasting change, including emotional processing, nervous system regulation, practice, repetition, and integration—and explain the Return To Self process I use to help women move from survival mode toward greater self-trust, stronger boundaries, and a more sustainable way of living. Because knowing what to do isn't the same as being able to do it. Applications for my Return To Self 1:1 coaching program are open through August 28, 2026 💜 If you're a woman living with burnout, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, or an autoimmune illness and you're ready to address the deeper patterns keeping you stuck in survival mode, the first step is to apply and book a next-step call. EP 6: "But My Situation Is Different"

What if the biggest thing keeping you stuck in burnout isn't your circumstances—but the belief that your circumstances make change impossible? If you've been living with burnout, chronic exhaustion, chronic stress, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, or an autoimmune illness, you may have told yourself: "I know this might work for other people, but my situation is different." Maybe you have kids. Maybe your job is demanding. Maybe you're responsible for everyone else. Maybe you can't simply slow down. Maybe you've tried everything. Maybe your health has made things more complicated. Maybe you don't have the support you need. Maybe you've been in survival mode for so long that you don't even know what another way of living would look like. And while your circumstances are real, they don't necessarily mean that change isn't possible. In this episode of the Return To Self Live Series, we're unpacking the belief that "my situation is different" and exploring what may actually be underneath it. We'll talk about: ✨ Why your circumstances can be real without being the reason you have to stay stuck ✨ The difference between acknowledging your reality and using it as evidence that change isn't possible ✨ How people pleasing, perfectionism, over-responsibility, and caretaker patterns can make it difficult to imagine doing things differently ✨ Why being the strong, responsible one can make asking for help or prioritizing yourself feel impossible ✨ The hidden beliefs that can keep you stuck in survival mode ✨ Why waiting for your circumstances to change before you change may keep you waiting indefinitely ✨ What it looks like to begin creating change within the reality you actually have Because I'm not here to tell you: "Just slow down." "Just set boundaries." "Just rest." "Just think positively." Real life doesn't work that way. The deeper question is: What would become possible if you stopped waiting for your circumstances to become perfect before giving yourself permission to choose differently? This is the heart of Return To Self—learning to recognize the patterns that keep you disconnected from yourself, understanding what your nervous system and emotions are communicating, and beginning to make choices from self-trust rather than guilt, fear, obligation, or survival. If you're a woman living with burnout, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, or an autoimmune illness and you're ready to explore whether deeper support could help you move out of survival mode and toward a softer, more sustainable way of living, applications for my Return To Self 1:1 coaching program are currently open. Your first step is simply a conversation. Apply and book your next-step call here: https://julieajamison.com/return-to-self

EP 5: You Don't Need More Discipline, You Need...

What if you don't have a discipline problem? If you're burned out, exhausted, overwhelmed, and struggling to follow through on the things you know you're "supposed" to be doing, you may have convinced yourself that you simply need more discipline, motivation, consistency, or willpower. But here's the question: If discipline were the answer, wouldn't you have fixed this already? You're probably incredibly disciplined when it comes to showing up for everyone else. You're the responsible one. The caretaker. The perfectionist. The people pleaser. The strong one. The woman everyone can count on. So why does taking care of yourself feel so much harder? In this episode, we'll explore: Why more discipline isn't necessarily the answer to burnoutThe gap between knowing what you should do and actually being able to changeHow people pleasing and perfectionism can keep you stuck in survival modeWhy you may be trying to change your behavior without addressing what's driving itThe emotional patterns underneath over-functioning and self-abandonmentWhy awareness alone isn't always enoughWhat actually needs to happen for sustainable behavior changeThe Return To Self process and how it helps women begin moving from survival mode toward a softer, more sustainable way of livingYou don't need to become a more disciplined version of the exhausted woman you already are. You may need to stop overriding yourself. 🌹 Applications for my Return To Self 1:1 coaching program are now open. EP:4 From Burnout to Peace - What's Actually Possible?

What if burnout isn't your forever? What if you could actually move from burnout to peace—not by becoming better at managing your exhaustion, but by changing the patterns that have kept you living in survival mode? In this episode, we're talking about what's actually possible when you stop trying to solve burnout with more productivity hacks, wellness routines, discipline, and "just slowing down." We'll explore: What you've probably already tried to do to recover from burnoutWhy those strategies may provide temporary relief but don't address the deeper patternsHow people pleasing, perfectionism, over-responsibility, and difficulty setting boundaries can contribute to chronic exhaustionThe counterintuitive shifts that may be necessary for lasting changeWhy choosing yourself can feel uncomfortable when you're used to being the responsible oneWhy knowing what you need isn't always enough to actually change your behaviorWhat life can look like when you stop abandoning yourself to keep everyone else comfortableImagine resting without guilt. Saying no without spiraling. Having energy left at the end of the day. Making decisions based on your actual capacity instead of everyone else's expectations. Feeling connected to yourself again. That's the possibility of moving from survival mode toward a softer, more sustainable way of living. EP 3: The Fastest Way To Signal Safety To Your Nervous Sytem

If you're constantly overwhelmed, exhausted, anxious, or feeling like you have to keep pushing through, your nervous system may be spending more time in survival mode than you realize. And sometimes the fastest way to begin creating a sense of safety isn't another wellness routine. It's a decision. In this episode, I share a practical strategy you can begin using immediately to start signaling safety to your nervous system. We'll explore: What your nervous system actually needs from youWhy constantly overriding yourself can reinforce a sense of unsafetyThe connection between boundaries, capacity, and nervous system regulationA tangible decision you can make todayHow to implement it in your everyday lifeWhy making the right choice can feel uncomfortable at firstHow to make taking action easier when you're used to putting everyone else's needs before your ownIf you're a people pleaser, perfectionist, caretaker, high achiever, or the woman everyone relies on, this may challenge the way you've been thinking about rest, boundaries, and self-care. Because nervous system regulation isn't only about breathing exercises and meditation. Sometimes safety begins when you finally stop overriding yourself. EP 2: Why Rest Isn't Fixing Your Exhaustion

What if the reason you're still exhausted isn't because you're not resting enough? If you've been dealing with burnout, chronic exhaustion, chronic stress, or feeling stuck in survival mode, you've probably been told to rest more, sleep more, take a vacation, or simply "slow down." But what happens when you do all of that...and you're still exhausted? In this episode, we're going deeper than traditional burnout advice to explore why rest alone may not be enough to help you recover. We'll talk about: What burnout can actually look and feel likeWhy you can be physically resting while your nervous system is still operating in survival modeThe connection between responsibility, people pleasing, perfectionism, and chronic exhaustionWhy being the strong one can make it difficult to truly restWhat may be keeping you stuck even when you're doing "all the right things"What needs to change beneath the surface for you to begin experiencing more peace, capacity, and connection with yourself If you're the woman who is always taking care of everyone else but can't seem to slow down long enough to take care of yourself, this conversation is for you. You don't necessarily need more rest. You may need to understand why your body doesn't feel safe enough to truly rest. This episode is part of my Return To Self Live Series, a series exploring burnout, survival mode, nervous system regulation, emotional healing, boundaries, and what it means to reconnect with yourself. 💜 If you're ready to go deeper, learn more about working with me through Return To Self 1:1 coaching here: https://julieajamison.com/return-to-self 🤍 Enjoying the Return To Self podcast?
