The Ministry of Hospitality | Coached by Truth

The Ministry of Hospitality What is it like for another person to be in your presence? Hospitality is more than a place or an activity. It is something we carry with us into every encounter. It is the relational environment we create where another person can feel heard, respected, and safe enough to be honest. In this episode of Coached by Truth, Jim Kirkland explores the ministry of hospitality and the example of the early church in Acts 2. We consider the difference between exercising biblical discernment and becoming judgmental, why listening is often more important than immediately correcting, and how trusting God to change hearts frees us to genuinely love and understand people. You’ll be challenged to consider the kind of environment you create around yourself and to practice hospitality through one intentional conversation this week. Three coaching questions will help you consider: • What do people experience when they are with you? • What happens inside you when someone tells you something difficult? • Do you trust God enough to let Him be responsible for changing people? Sometimes three simple words can create the space another person needs: “Tell me more.” Listen now and discover how carrying a hospitable presence into every encounter can help you care for others with both truth and grace. Lamenting Is Christian, Complaining Is Worldly | Coached by Truth

In this episode of Coached by Truth, Jim Kirkland explores an important distinction between biblical lament and worldly complaining. Life brings disappointment, grief, confusion, frustration, and seasons when we simply do not understand what God is doing. Scripture does not tell us to pretend those struggles are not real. The Bible gives us another way to respond. Lament allows us to bring our pain honestly into the presence of God. Rather than allowing disappointment to drive us away from Him, we can turn toward Him, tell Him what hurts, remember His faithfulness, and choose to trust Him even when our circumstances have not changed. Through practical Christian coaching and biblical examples, this episode will help you examine how you respond when life hurts and learn a simple pattern for biblical lament. You will also consider how learning to lament well can help you minister more effectively to others who are grieving, discouraged, or struggling. Grumbling drives us away from God. Lamenting draws us near to God. When You Don’t Feel Like Praying | Coached by Truth

In this episode of Coached by Truth, Jim Kirkland explores something many Christians experience but may hesitate to admit: there are times when we simply don’t feel like praying. Sometimes we are tired, discouraged, distracted, disappointed, or overwhelmed. At other times, we may not know what to say or may even wonder whether our prayers are making a difference. Yet prayer is not dependent upon our emotions. Our relationship with God remains important even when the desire to pray feels distant. Through practical Christian coaching and biblical principles, this episode encourages you to consider what may be getting in the way of prayer and how you can continue turning toward God even when prayer feels difficult. You don’t need perfect words, the right emotions, or a lengthy prayer. Sometimes faithfulness begins simply by showing up and honestly telling God what is on your heart. Prayer is more than a spiritual task to complete. It is part of our relationship with God. And sometimes the moments when we least feel like praying may be the moments when we most need to draw near to Him. Learning to Be Still | Coached by Truth

In this episode of Coached by Truth, Jim Kirkland explores something that can be surprisingly difficult in a busy, noisy, and demanding world: learning to be still. Our lives are filled with responsibilities, conversations, notifications, decisions, problems to solve, and people who need our attention. Even when our bodies stop moving, our minds can continue racing. Yet Scripture reminds us of the importance of becoming still long enough to remember who God is and to recognize that we do not have to control everything around us. Through practical Christian coaching and biblical principles, this episode encourages you to examine the noise and activity in your own life and consider whether you are creating enough space to be quiet, listen, pray, reflect, and simply rest in the presence of God. Being still is not the same as doing nothing. Sometimes stillness requires discipline. It means intentionally stepping away from the noise, resisting the urge to fill every available moment, and trusting that God remains at work even when we stop striving. Caring for Yourself When You Care for Others | Coached by Truth

In this episode of Coached by Truth, Jim Kirkland explores an important challenge for people who spend much of their lives caring for others: learning to care for yourself so you can continue serving faithfully and effectively. Chaplaincy, ministry, coaching, leadership, and caregiving can require a great deal from us emotionally, spiritually, and physically. When we are constantly focused on the needs of others, it can be easy to neglect our own need for rest, renewal, healthy boundaries, and time with God. Through practical Christian coaching and biblical principles, this episode encourages you to consider how well you are caring for the person God has called to care for others. Taking care of yourself is not about becoming self-centered. It is about recognizing your limits, stewarding your health and energy wisely, and developing rhythms that allow you to continue serving others for the long term. You cannot continually pour into others without being intentional about what is filling you. Healthy service requires learning when to rest, when to step away, when to ask for help, and when to allow others to care for you too.
