    Consider Jesus (1) - God Has Spoken In His Son

    In this opening sermon from Hebrews, we begin by getting our bearings in the book before turning to Hebrews 1:1–3 and its sevenfold description of Christ: heir of all things, Creator, radiance of God’s glory, exact representation of His nature, sustainer of all things, purifier of sins, and the enthroned King. Hebrews begins by lifting our eyes to the greatness of the Son. Before it calls us to endure, hold fast, and draw near, it first shows us who Jesus is.

    What happens when sin does not merely leave guilt behind, but real damage? The guilt offering shows us that God’s forgiveness does not ignore what sin has broken.  We continue The Better Sacrifice, considering the guilt offering and how it points us to Jesus Christ—the One who restores what our sin has ruined and brings us back into fellowship with God.

    In this sermon, we explore the biblical categories of holy and common, clean and unclean, and see how God graciously made it possible for mortal and sinful people to remain near His presence. We then turn to Jesus, the Holy One who entered the world of the unclean—cleansing lepers, forgiving sins, driving out unclean spirits, and overcoming death itself.

    The Better Sacrifice - The Peace Offering

    The Peace Offering was the only sacrifice in which God, the priests, and the worshipper all shared in the same meal. It proclaimed that by God's gracious provision, those who once stood far off could now draw near and enjoy fellowship with Him. We continue the teaching series, The Better Sacrifice, and see how this offering points beyond itself to Jesus Christ, who has reconciled us to the Father and now invites us to His table.

    Why did God give Israel sacrifices? Were they merely ancient religious rituals, or were they teaching something far greater?
