Grounding and Blood Viscosity: What the Research Shows

Episode 03: Grounding and Blood Viscosity — What Happened to Red Blood Cells? What happens to red blood cells when the human body is grounded? In this episode of The GeoSomni Grounding Research Podcast, we examine a small but fascinating group of human studies investigating grounding, red blood cell electrical properties, blood-cell aggregation, whole-blood viscosity and microcirculation. We look at the 2013 experiment that reported a substantial increase in the magnitude of red blood cell zeta potential after two hours of grounding, alongside changes in how the cells clustered together. Then we examine a later controlled study that went a step further and directly measured whole-blood viscosity in grounded and sham-grounded participants. We also explore preliminary research using laser imaging to investigate superficial facial blood-flow patterns during grounding. The findings are intriguing, but the research remains early. We distinguish carefully between what scientists actually measured, what the studies suggest, and the mechanisms that remain hypotheses. Grounding and Muscle Recovery: Can Grounding Help After Exercise?

Grounding, Muscle Soreness & Exercise Recovery Can grounding help the body recover after strenuous exercise? In this episode of The GeoSomni Grounding Research Podcast, we explore the human research investigating grounding, delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS), muscle damage and exercise recovery. We look at early experiments that reported interesting differences in creatine kinase (CK), immune and inflammatory markers, as well as a later triple-blinded study that found potentially favourable differences in some measures of strength and physical performance during recovery. One of the most interesting themes to emerge is that physiological recovery and feeling less sore may not necessarily be the same thing. While several studies have reported promising biological or functional findings, reductions in subjective muscle soreness have been less consistent. We also look at a newer short-duration grounding-mat study that found no significant reduction in soreness following a 30-minute pre-exercise grounding session — raising an interesting question about whether the timing and duration of grounding may matter. The research is still preliminary, but these early human studies provide some intriguing signals and good reasons for further investigation. Do Grounding Mats actually improve sleep? (What the research says)

Grounding & Sleep: What Does the Research Actually Show? Can grounding actually help you sleep better? In this episode of The GeoSomni Grounding Research Podcast, we take a close look at the research investigating grounding and sleep — from an early cortisol study to a recent randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled human trial. We explore what researchers have found about total sleep time, sleep quality, insomnia, daytime sleepiness and cortisol, as well as a small study involving people with mild Alzheimer's disease and newer animal research examining possible biological mechanisms. Most importantly, we separate the promising findings from what the science has not yet established. The current evidence suggests that grounding may influence some aspects of sleep, but the research is still small and preliminary. Grounding has not been established as a treatment for insomnia or other sleep disorders, and larger independent studies are needed.
