Nobody Talks About This Part of Being an Autism Mom

Nobody really tells you what it's actually going to feel like to become an autism or ADHD mom. We hear so much about the therapies, IEP meetings, school, advocacy, routines, and all the things our children may need. But there are some parts of this journey that nobody really prepares you for. In this episode of The Still Thriving Podcast, I'm sharing six things I wish someone had told me about being an autism mom: from grieving the experiences I once imagined having with my daughter, to becoming an advocate before I felt ready, questioning the little things other people may not notice, and realizing that support for my child wasn't the same as support for me. I'll also talk about why you don't have to become an expert overnight, why you need your own team, and why your life doesn't have to stop just because your child has a diagnosis. You are still becoming. You are still allowed to dream. And you don't have to put your life on hold. Because yes, our kids need support. But so do we. 🤍 00:00 Intro 01:06 The grief nobody talks about 03:41 Becoming an advocate before you're ready 08:06 The little things you start questioning 10:13 Your child's support team isn't your support team 12:49 You don't have to become an expert 13:40 You are still becoming 14:36 You don't have to navigate this alone 15:45 Podcast outro A FEW THINGS WE LOVE 🎧 Our favorite noise-canceling headphones:https://a.co/d/0gOzdTB4 This is an affiliate link, which means I may earn a small commission if you make a purchase through the link, at no additional cost to you. Life After an Autism or ADHD Diagnosis: What Happens to the Mom? | EPISODE 01

I created Still Thriving because I kept noticing something missing from the conversations surrounding autism and ADHD: the mom. We're constantly talking about what our children need. The therapies. The school meetings. The IEPs. The advocacy. The diagnosis. The next thing we're supposed to figure out. But somewhere along the way, I started asking: Who is talking about what happens to us? In Episode 1, I'm sharing more of my story, including becoming a mom, navigating my daughter's diagnosis journey, receiving my own ADHD diagnosis, and finding my way into this next chapter of motherhood. I'll share why I created Still Thriving and what I hope this community and podcast can become for moms navigating autism, ADHD, advocacy, school, motherhood, self-care, and all the changes that come with this journey. Because Still Thriving isn't about having everything figured out. It's about continuing to grow, learn, advocate, simplify, and become even when life doesn't look the way you expected it to. And yes, we'll talk about what happens after diagnosis. But we'll also talk about the everyday realities of raising our kids, building systems that work, taking care of ourselves, navigating school, finding support, and making life feel more manageable. Because your child deserves support. And so do you. 🤍 A FEW THINGS WE LOVE 🎧 Our favorite noise-canceling headphones:https://a.co/d/0gOzdTB4 This is an affiliate link, which means I may earn a small commission if you make a purchase through the link, at no additional cost to you.
