Angela Hayden

Commanded Presence is a podcast for women becoming leaders who are spiritually grounded, strategically led, and stylishly expressed. Hosted by Angela Hayden, attorney and leadership advisor, the show explores what it takes to develop a presence capable of carrying what God has entrusted to you. Each week, Angela offers practical insight, honest personal stories, and thoughtful conversations about faith, leadership, communication, personal style, and the decisions that shape a life of influence. If you have ever felt called to more but struggled to step fully into it, this podcast is for you. Because your next level does not begin when you become someone else. It begins when who you are, how you lead, and how you show up become aligned with the assignment already in front of you. angelayhayden.substack.com

S1E4: Follow the Peace: What Does Peace Require?

What does it actually mean to follow the peace? For me, “Where is the peace?” has become more than a question I ask when making big decisions. It’s become a governing principle for how I navigate my life. But choosing peace isn’t always easy—and it definitely isn’t the same as choosing comfort. In this episode of Commanded Presence, I explore what it looks like to choose peace when that means walking away from chaos, having the uncomfortable conversation, setting a boundary, or trusting that you don’t have to chase every opportunity. We’ll talk about: Why being rooted in your identity changes what you feel compelled to defend The difference between peace and comfort Why avoiding confrontation can actually prolong chaos How ambition and fear of missing out can pull us away from peace Three questions I use to determine what peace requires of me Because Commanded Presence isn’t always about walking into the room and commanding attention. Sometimes it’s knowing which room you don’t need to enter—and which invitations to chaos you don’t have to accept. This week, ask yourself: Where am I asking God for peace while continuing to choose chaos? And what does choosing peace actually require of me? Ready to command what’s next? Commanded Presence is an extension of the work I do through Hayden Royce Advisory, where I help women preparing for greater visibility, influence, and leadership align their Spirit, Strategy, and Style so that who they are, where they’re going, and how they show up tell the same story. If you’re navigating a next-level season and want support getting clear and aligned for what’s ahead, learn more about working with me through Hayden Royce Advisory. S1E3: Style Is Strategy, Not Vanity — The Style Pillar

Episode 3: Style Is Strategy, Not Vanity — The Style Pillar During one of my first weeks as a public defender, another lawyer looked at me and said, “You’re really overdressed for this place.” Maybe. But I was also preparing to stand beside someone whose freedom was in my hands. Why wouldn’t I show up looking my best? In this episode of Commanded Presence, we’re exploring the third pillar: Style—the intentional use of clothing and image to communicate who you are and how you want to be received. Style isn’t just decoration we add after the important work is done. People often encounter our image before they know our credentials, intelligence, character, convictions, or calling. I share how Style helped me communicate authority as a brand-new lawyer before I fully felt it, why I built my first courtroom wardrobe at Goodwill and consignment shops, and why dressing appropriately for the room doesn’t require disappearing in it. In this episode: Why Style belongs alongside Spirit and Strategy What your image communicates before you ever speak Why Style can introduce you, but your substance has to support the introduction Why great Style isn’t determined by how much money you spend How professional women can dress for the room without editing themselves out of it Why you don’t have to postpone visibility until your body changes How Spirit, Strategy, and Style work together to create Commanded Presence Style is strategy, not vanity. The goal isn’t simply to dress for the room. It’s to dress for the room without disappearing in it. S1E2:What’s in Your Hands? — The Strategy Pillar

What if the strategy that works for someone else isn’t the strategy that’s supposed to work for you? In this episode of Commanded Presence, we’re exploring the second pillar of the framework: Strategy—the wisdom and understanding needed to create an intentional path toward your goals using actions that reflect your values, gifts, and skill set. When David prepared to face Goliath, Saul gave him perfectly legitimate armor. There was just one problem: it wasn’t made for David. The same thing can happen when we build our lives and leadership around someone else’s idea of what effectiveness is supposed to look like. I share how being calm, soft-spoken, and relational became part of my strategy as a trial lawyer—and why learning to work with who you are doesn’t mean avoiding the skills the moment requires. Because being strategically led isn’t simply about having a good plan. It’s about knowing what belongs in your hands. In this episode: The difference between having a plan and being strategically led What David and Saul’s armor can teach us about strategy How to recognize the strengths already in your hands Why “that’s just how I am” isn’t a strategy The difference between developing yourself and performing as someone else Why your strategy can change without changing who you are How Spirit and Strategy work together A strategically led woman doesn’t need someone else’s armor. She needs the wisdom to recognize her own sling, the discipline to become skillful with it, and the courage to use it when the moment comes. S1E1: My Daddy Has a Job for Me: The Spirit Pillar

A few years ago, a young attorney said something to me that I have never forgotten: “If I don’t make this probationary period or I get fired, it’s fine. My daddy has a job for me.” It wasn’t arrogance. She simply knew that this one opportunity did not have the power to determine her entire future. I remember thinking: That is how I want to move through life. And that story eventually gave me language for what I now call Spirit, the first pillar of the Commanded Presence framework. Spirit is your internal foundation. It grounds you in who you are, what you believe, what you value, and what you’ve been called to carry before you walk into a room that will inevitably have an opinion about who you should be. In this episode, I’m talking about what happens when we slowly lose that center, the difference between peace and comfort, and the practices that help us return to ourselves. Because one job, one relationship, one opportunity, one rejection, or one room does not get to determine your entire future. In this episode: * What Spirit means within the Commanded Presence framework * How small negotiations can slowly disconnect us from ourselves * Why the room doesn’t get final authority over who you are * The difference between peace and comfort * Creating enough quiet to recognize what you actually believe This is the first of three episodes exploring the pillars of Commanded Presence: Spirit, Strategy, and Style. Next, we’re moving into Strategy, because knowing who you are is foundational, but eventually what you know has to shape what you do next.
