    The Church That Glorifies God Before the Storm Acts 21:17-26

    The Lord Who Leads Us Home Acts 21:1-16

    Following Christ does not always mean He leads us around suffering. Sometimes He leads us straight through it. In Acts 21, Paul continues toward Jerusalem knowing that chains await him. Along the road, the Lord gives him companions, prepares him for what is coming, teaches those who love him to surrender their desires, and shows that Jesus is worth following wherever the road leads. God is not a genie we command. He is the Lord and Savior who leads His people and brings them home.     The Church Begins and Ends With Christ Acts 20:28-38

    The church does not belong to a pastor, a founding family, a denomination, or its largest giver. The church belongs to Jesus Christ because He purchased her with His own blood. In Acts 20:28–38, Paul gives his final instructions to the Ephesian elders. He commands them to watch themselves, care for the entire flock, guard the church against wolves, depend upon the Word of grace, help the weak, and remember that everything ultimately depends upon God. “Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood” (Acts 20:28 ESV). This sermon follows four truths from Paul’s farewell. A Church Purchased by Christ A Church Guarded by Christ’s Truth A Church Built by Christ’s Grace A Church Shaped by Christ and Bound for Christ The church began because Christ obeyed the law we had broken, bore our guilt upon the cross, shed His blood for sinners, and rose victorious over sin and death. She is preserved by His grace, shaped by His self-giving love, and destined to dwell forever in His presence. If you are without Christ, do not wait until you believe you have made yourself worthy. Turn from your sin and trust completely in the crucified and risen Savior. Jesus said, “Whoever comes to me I will never cast out” (John 6:37 ESV).     Paul is hastening toward Jerusalem, and suffering waits for him there. He knows the cost, and he keeps walking anyway. Not because he has some strength unavailable to the rest of us, but because the grace he preaches is what holds him on the road.The calendar could not stop him. Opposition could not stop him.     The Church Death Could Not Stop Acts 20:1–12

    Paul traveled among churches facing opposition, suffering, uncertain roads, and sudden grief. Yet through every danger, the risen Christ continued strengthening, guiding, nourishing, and comforting His people. When the believers at Troas gathered on the first day of the week around the Word and the Lord’s Table, a young man named Eutychus fell from a third-story window and was taken up dead. But death did not have the final word that night, and it will not have the final word over anyone who belongs to Jesus Christ. Eutychus was restored to mortal life for a little while. Jesus Christ rose in glorified, indestructible life forever. The Savior who receives His people will keep them, and the Savior who keeps them will raise them on the last day. Join us as we hear the good news that opposition cannot silence Christ’s church, grief cannot separate Christ from His people, and death cannot stop what the risen Christ has promised to complete.     When the Gospel Reaches Your Life Acts 19:21–41 and the Cost of a Threatened Idol

    Demetrius made his living crafting gods that could not see him or save him. When Paul's preaching started emptying Ephesus of customers, one silversmith found out exactly what he loved more than Christ. I preach through Acts 19:21-41 and trace what happens when the gospel stops being a private comfort and starts pressing against the one thing someone has built their whole life around protecting. A riot breaks out in the largest theater in Asia. A crowd chants for two hours over a truth nobody will let anyone speak. And in the middle of all that noise, Christ is shown ruling quietly through the ordinary reasoning of a town clerk who never once mentions his name. Ask yourself what you've already decided is too costly for Christ to touch.

    The Name Exalted and the Darkness Exposed Acts 19:11–20

    What happens when people try to use the name of Jesus without bowing to Him as Lord? In Ephesus, God exposed the difference between the authority of Christ and the counterfeit power of magic, superstition, and borrowed religion. The sons of Sceva tried to use Jesus as a spiritual formula. Those whom Christ truly saved brought their hidden practices into the light, confessed their sins, and burned the books that once held them in bondage. The name of Jesus cannot be joined to darkness, but no sinner trapped in darkness is beyond the reach of His grace. Christ does not offer us another spiritual technique or a stronger power to place at our disposal. He gives us Himself.     Nothing is missing in Christ Acts 19:1-10

    Paul meets twelve disciples in Ephesus who had repented and believed everything John the Baptist had taught them, yet when Paul asks them a simple question, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”, their answer exposes exactly where their understanding had stopped. Acts 19:1-10 is not a story about Christians waiting on a later spiritual upgrade. It is a story about men hearing the fulfilled gospel of the risen Christ for the first time and discovering that nothing was missing. This message walks through that encounter section by section, from the bronze basin in Exodus and the new heart promised in Ezekiel, through John’s baptism as a signpost rather than a destination, into what actually happened when these twelve men were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus and the Spirit confirmed their place among God’s new covenant people. It closes in the synagogue at Ephesus and the hall of Tyrannus, where Paul kept carrying the same Christ into the next open door even after being pushed out of the first one. If you have ever been told that something more is needed beyond faith in Christ, or if you have quietly wondered whether your salvation is missing a second experience, this message speaks directly to that question from the text itself.
