Ep 11 | Part 2 How She Lost 17kg and Avoided a Hip Replacement in Her 50s with Jarrod Brown

Send us Fan Mail What if the “only option” you were given isn’t the only option? 💛 In Part 2 of this two-part episode of Behind The Method, our coaches share the second of the top two transformation stories in Evolve Performance Method history: Caryn. In her mid-50s, Caryn came to EPM living with daily back and hip pain, disrupted sleep and hot flushes from menopause, and feeling low and hopeless about her future. She’d been told a hip replacement was her only path to getting out of pain. Fast forward, and the hip replacement is off the table. Caryn has lost around 17kg (from about 75kg down to 61kg), deadlifted 90kg for three reps at her lightest body weight, and completely changed how she sees herself. In this episode: 🔹 How Caryn’s journey started: pain first, fat loss second, one thing at a time 🔹 Why glute weakness and movement dysfunction are so common in women in their 50s 🔹 Why we need to stop fearing carbs, and how they support fat loss and strength training 🔹 The difference between hunger and appetite 🔹 Portion control and checking in with yourself instead of finishing everything on the plate 🔹 Why tracking your food builds food literacy, even if you think you’re “too old for apps” 🔹 How Caryn went from putting everyone else first to putting herself first 🔹 Why it pays to get a second or third opinion if you’ve been told you need major surgery 🔹 Why strength training is often the best medicine Ready to start your own transformation? Ep 11 | Part 1 From Back Pain to Strong: How a Woman in Her 50s Became Unrecognisable in 12 Months

Send us Fan Mail What does it take to go from timid and in pain to strong and confident in 12 months? 💪 In Part 1 of this two-part episode of Behind The Method, Coach Jarrod Brown shares the first of the top two transformation stories in Evolve Performance Method history. Teresa, in her late 50s, came to Jarrod with low back issues and pain, and a training approach that had the right intentions but the wrong execution. Twelve months later, she’s lost 6.9kg of body fat, taken her glute drive from 20kg to over 70kg, and is almost unrecognisable in how she looks, trains and thinks about her body. Jarrod and host break down not just the results, but the process behind them, so you can start applying the same steps. In this episode: 🔹 Why Teresa’s original training was “on the way there, but wrong in almost every aspect” 🔹 Why Jarrod peeled everything back to simple, foundational movements she could do well fast 🔹 How to train around pain and build confidence, starting with machines and moving to free weights at 4-6 months 🔹 How a client’s fear of pain can hold back their progress, and how to move past it 🔹 Why general steps and daily activity make a bigger difference to fat loss than most people realise 🔹 How to help high-achieving clients know when to push and when to pull back 🔹 The biggest factor behind her success: trusting the process and not negotiating it 🔹 Why you can acknowledge how far you’ve come while still striving for more Teresa’s transformation has even inspired her to explore a career in coaching herself. 🙌 📲 Want to see the progress? Ep 9 | Why You Keep Falling Off: 11 "Healthy" Habits to Rethink with Cat Macfarlane

Send us Fan Mail In this episode of Behind The Method, Coach Cat breaks down 11 “healthy” habits that quietly sabotage your progress, and what to do instead. From 5am workouts and “starting Monday” to cutting out your favourite foods, punishing yourself with cardio and judging your whole week on one number on the scale, she shares the lessons she’s learned from years of coaching (and from making some of these mistakes herself). In this episode:  Why 5am workouts and copying an influencer’s routine might not work for you The trap of waiting for the “perfect” time to start Why researching for weeks isn’t the same as making progress Why changing too many things at once makes none of them stick How restriction leads to the “stuff it” cycle, and what to do instead Why one day’s numbers don’t tell the full story Why body-only goals are risky, and what to focus on instead How to set a timeline for a deficit so it has a finish line How making decisions in advance removes the friction When changing your plan is smart, not quittingCat also shares the one she says is the most important, and it took her years to learn herself. 👀 Ready to reset? Cat’s Reset Method kicks off on 19th October, a 9-week program with 5 mindset modules, practical steps to put them into action, weekly online coaching and the option of 2 face-to-face sessions. Send us Fan Mail Glute training can get seriously confusing. There are endless exercises, different rep ranges, conflicting advice around squats, RDLs, training volume, technique… and a whole lot of opinions about what you should be doing. So in Episode 7 of Behind The Method, Coach Jarrod Brown breaks down what actually matters when it comes to building stronger, more defined legs — particularly your glutes and hamstrings. With 15 years of coaching experience, Jarrod shares some of the most common mistakes he sees when people are trying to grow their glutes, what he often changes when someone first starts training with EPM, and how to approach some of the most popular lower-body movements. We get into: • Where people commonly go wrong with glute training • The changes Jarrod often makes when someone starts with EPM • Why your RDL might feel awkward, hit your lower back or not feel like it's working your glutes • DB RDLs vs Barbell RDLs — when and why you'd choose one over the other • Whether squats are better for your quads or glutes • Whether everyone actually needs to squat • 3 overrated glute exercises • An underrated lower-body exercise you might be overlooking • What Jarrod will be covering at the upcoming EPM Lower Body Training Workshop If you've ever wondered whether you're getting the most out of your lower-body training, this is one you won't want to miss. 🎧 Listen now and take the guesswork out of your lower-body training. Ep 4 | Grief, Discipline, and a Second Chance at Life with Kylie Seeley

Send us Fan Mail ⚠️ Content warning: this episode discusses grief, the sudden loss of a parent, and heart health/medical topics. If these are sensitive topics for you, please listen at your own discretion.  In this episode we sit down with Coach Kylie Seeley. Kylie joined our Coaching team in 2025 with 3 years experience in the fitness industry. But before Kylie became the queen of discipline we know today, she was someone very different — a drinker, a smoker, someone who avoided exercise, slept in, and lived life as a self-described party girl. At 31, everything changed. Following a personal family tragedy, Kylie made the decision to completely transform her life. She opens up about giving up smoking, cutting back on drinking, and building the discipline to train at 6am and becoming the fittest and most disciplined version of herself, all sparked by one of the hardest moments of her life. We talk about how she actually started, the mindset shifts required to change her identity so completely, and her advice for anyone who feels stuck and doesn't know where to begin. We also get into something rarely talked about; how to navigate the people around you when you're the one changing, and they're not. Kylie's story is proof that it's never too late to change, and that fighting for your health is always worth it, because you never know when it can be taken away. This episode is honest, heavy in places, and full of hope and we hope there are many parts that resonate with you in a powerful way.
