What’s Flowing? Ideas in Motion

Flavia Marfella

What’s Flowing? is a podcast about ideas in motion, and what happens when they’re not. I’m Flavia, a certified coach and positive psychology practitioner with many years of experience in retail, innovation, ideas and change. Here I share reflections, experiments and behind the scenes insights from what I’m building, testing and learning as it happens. That might mean the decisions behind building FlowSet, growing a community for creative and curious women navigating midlife, experimenting with a new idea, changing direction, getting stuck, starting again, or simply noticing something that makes me think. We’ll explore creativity, work, identity, technology, midlife, change and the very human process of turning ideas into something real. This isn’t a podcast about fixing yourself, reinventing your life or having all the answers. It’s about curiosity, experimentation, perspective and noticing what might already be starting to move. Maybe something in my process sparks something in yours.

What Do We Do With the Time We Save?

Habits can help. Good design can help. Reducing friction can help. But what are we freeing up time and energy for? And does everything need to become a productivity tool?   What if habits are useful, but not everything in life needs to become one? In this episode of What’s Flowing?, I reflect on why habits can genuinely help us reduce friction, save mental energy and make some things easier. I talk about what I learned from Atomic Habits, why leaving my gym shoes ready actually works, and why the research on habit formation is much less neat than the famous “21 days” or “28 days” idea. I also connect this to Norman doors, the classic design example that reminds us that sometimes the problem is not the person. Sometimes the system is simply making things harder than they need to be. And that leads to the question I’m really interested in: What deserves to become a habit, and what do we want to keep conscious, messy and chosen? Because reducing unnecessary friction can be useful. But I’m not sure the goal is to optimise every part of life. I don’t want every walk to become exercise, or every part of life to become a productivity tool. Maybe sometimes the goal is simply to remove a little noise, and leave some space. Host Flavia Marfella Certified Coach and Positive Psychology Practitioner Podcast What’s Flowing? Let’s Stop for Two Minutes

What if the next move isn’t to push harder, think more or keep going? In this episode of What’s Flowing?, I reflect on stillness, stress, decision making, recovery and the difference between a pause that gives us clarity and one that helps us avoid something. It starts with a very ordinary moment: standing in a shopping centre with my son, stressed about finding waterproof shoes, when he suggested we stop for two minutes and do nothing. From there, I explore a bigger question: How do we know when stillness is restorative, and when it’s avoidance? I also share how forced pauses after injury and surgery changed the way I looked at therapy, movement, Vipassana, my wardrobe, FlowSet I developed, and the friction we stop noticing when we’re too busy moving through it. There’s also a small reflection on ensō, the Zen circle drawn in one continuous brushstroke. You don’t go back and perfect it. You draw it, and leave it as it is. I’ve always liked that reminder. This episode isn’t about glorifying stillness or saying we should always slow down. It’s about noticing what a moment might actually be asking for: movement or stillness? Maybe stopping is not stepping away from the flow. Maybe it’s how we notice where the flow is actually going.
