Ep 7 Why 90% of Interviews Could Be Automated With AI │Mahe Bayireddi, CEO of Phenom

What happens to hiring when AI can screen thousands of candidates in a single day? Mahe Bayireddi is the CEO and co-founder of Phenom, the AI company helping some of the world's largest organizations rethink how they hire, develop and retain talent. His story started far away from enterprise AI. Growing up in Hyderabad, Mahe helped out in his father's pharmacy as a child. His father would tell him that one day, his children would create jobs for thousands of people. Years later, that idea became part of the mission behind Phenom: helping a billion people find the right work. In this episode of Shortcast, Mahe explains why traditional hiring workflows are broken, how AI agents can automate huge parts of recruiting, and why different jobs, industries and locations require completely different hiring systems. He breaks down how a process that once took weeks can be compressed into a day, why he believes 90% of interviews could be automated, and how AI agents are changing what is possible inside HR. But this conversation goes beyond hiring. Mahe also shares what it was like building a company with his brother, moving from Hyderabad to the US, meditating for up to two hours every day, and why he believes business can be spiritual. And for anyone feeling lost in their career, his advice is simple: don't just find your passion. Find what you're uniquely gifted at, connect it with what you care about, and use that to find your purpose. Ep 6 Why AI Agents Are Overhyped and Everyone Will Have a Digital Twin : David Shim

What if your AI didn't just answer questions, but actually became an extension of you? David Shim believes that's where we're heading. A digital twin that understands your meetings, emails, messages, files and calendar, then handles work on your behalf while leaving the important decisions to you. David is the co-founder and CEO of Read AI, the AI meeting and productivity platform used by millions of people. Before Read AI, he founded Placed, which was acquired by Snap, and later became CEO of Foursquare. In this episode of Shortcast, David breaks down how Read AI reached eight-figure ARR with zero marketing spend, why building a product people genuinely need became its growth engine, and how automatically supporting users in their native languages helped the company spread into markets around the world. He also explains why Read AI built its technology around a multimodal approach instead of relying entirely on general-purpose language models, why Microsoft and Google's entry into AI meeting tools actually helped Read, and why he thinks the term "AI agents" may disappear entirely. For David, agents are ultimately just software solving problems. In a few years, he thinks we may stop treating them as a separate category and simply expect those capabilities to exist inside the products we use. We also get into why so many enterprise AI pilots fail, whether meetings will still exist in five years, why humans may only need to handle the final 5% of decisions, four Diet Cokes a day, chasing the 1,000-pound club, failing business math, and why "follow your dreams" can sometimes be terrible advice. In This Episode 00:00 - Building Eight-Figure ARR With Zero Marketing Spend00:20 - Why David Thinks AI Agents Are Overhyped00:48 - Meet David Shim, CEO and Co-founder of Read AI01:14 - What Read AI Actually Does01:26 - The ESPN Moment That Inspired Read AI02:06 - Meet Ada, David's AI Digital Twin03:13 - Why Everyone Could Eventually Have a Digital Twin03:32 - Could Access to AI Become a Human Right?04:08 - How Read AI Grew Without Marketing Spend05:06 - The Small Product Decision That Unlocked Global Growth05:43 - Read AI's Growth Outside the US05:59 - Selling Placed to Snap07:14 - Why Microsoft Copilot Helped Read AI Grow08:10 - Why Read AI Uses Proprietary Models08:28 - Why Meetings Need Multimodal AI09:00 - Why David Thinks "AI Agents" Will Disappear09:36 - Why So Many Enterprise AI Pilots Fail10:33 - Will Meetings Still Exist in Five Years?10:50 - Why AI Can't Remove Humans From Every Decision11:18 - Can Your Digital Twin Handle 95% of Your Work?11:55 - Four Diet Cokes a Day for 20 Years12:26 - Chasing the 1,000-Pound Club13:00 - Why David Still Lives Minimally13:46 - Failing Math and Getting Rejected From Business School14:16 - What Rejection Taught David14:31 - The Most Overrated Life Advice14:59 - Why Founders Need to Listen to the Market15:20 - Outro 💡 SUBSCRIBE TO SHORTCAST for unfiltered conversations with the world's leading tech founders, intelligence experts, and builders. Ep 5 95% of Internet Video Will Be AI-Generated by 2027 | Victor Riparbelli

By 2027, Victor Riparbelli believes 95% of all video on the internet will be AI-generated. That doesn't mean 95% of what people actually watch will be AI. His point is about the sheer volume of video we're about to be able to create as the cost and complexity of production collapse. Victor is the CEO and co-founder of Synthesia, the AI video company valued at $4 billion and used by over 90% of the Fortune 100. Today, companies use Synthesia to create training, product marketing, sales enablement, and internal communication videos without cameras, actors, studios, or traditional production teams. But when Victor started building the company, almost nobody believed AI video was a real opportunity. Synthesia was rejected by around 100 investors before Mark Cuban invested $1 million in 2017. In this episode of Shortcast, Victor explains why he believes video and audio will increasingly replace text as the way we communicate, how running a World of Warcraft guild as a teenager taught him skills he still uses as a CEO, and why Synthesia abandoned Hollywood to focus on a much less glamorous but much bigger problem inside companies. We also get into AI avatars replacing parts of recruiting, the real risks of deepfakes, why young people should focus on taste and judgment, what founders misunderstand about passion, and Victor's slightly tongue-in-cheek take on one of the most effective AI growth strategies today. In This Episode 00:00 - Why 95% of Internet Video Could Be AI-Generated00:20 - When AI Video Sounded Completely Ridiculous00:52 - Meet Victor Riparbelli, CEO and Co-founder of Synthesia01:07 - What Synthesia Actually Does01:31 - Who Is Using AI Avatars at Work?02:04 - How Zoom Uses AI Video to Train Sales Teams02:27 - How Synthesia Reached a $4 Billion Valuation03:06 - Getting Rejected by Nearly 100 Investors03:34 - Why Mark Cuban Invested in Synthesia03:41 - Finding Product-Market Fit04:01 - Will Video and Audio Replace Reading?04:47 - What World of Warcraft Taught Victor About Leadership05:32 - Why Gaming Can Train Founders to Make Better Decisions06:32 - Leaving Denmark and Finding His Co-founders07:40 - Why Synthesia Pivoted Away From Hollywood08:46 - Turning PowerPoint Presentations Into Video09:32 - Will AI Avatars Replace Recruiters?09:59 - Building AI Avatars While Fighting Deepfakes10:38 - Should We Actually Be Scared of Deepfakes?11:16 - Victor's 95% AI-Generated Video Prediction11:47 - The Most Important AI Lesson for Young People12:05 - Why Taste and Judgment Become More Valuable With AI12:42 - The Biggest Lie Founders Tell Investors13:22 - Can Money Be Your Only Motivation?13:46 - Victor's Take on the Best Growth Strategy in AI14:28 - Why AI Companies Eventually Have to Deliver14:40 - Outro Victor Riparbelli: https://uk.linkedin.com/in/victorriparbelli 💡 SUBSCRIBE TO SHORTCAST for unfiltered conversations with the world's leading tech founders, intelligence experts, and builders. Ep 4 Adam Cheyer on Siri, Steve Jobs, AI Agents, and the Future of Interfaces

What happens when Steve Jobs calls you every day for 30 days because he wants to buy your company? Adam Cheyer, co-founder of Siri, lived that story. After initially turning Apple down, Adam and his co-founders eventually sold Siri to Apple following a negotiation that was about more than just money. It was about whether Apple understood and would support their original vision. Since then, Adam has co-founded Viv Labs, which was acquired by Samsung for $250 million, GamePlanner.AI, which was acquired by Airbnb for $200 million, Sentient Technologies, and Change.org. He has spent more than three decades working in AI, long before artificial intelligence became the center of every conversation. In this episode of Shortcast, Adam shares what Steve Jobs was really like, what Siri was originally supposed to become, why chat is not the ideal interface for many AI tasks, and why the future may combine touch, voice, spatial computing, and augmented reality. He also explains his “10 plus” theory for predicting major technology shifts, how he managed multiple startups at once, why many AI startups may fail, and what founders need to build a real moat. We also discuss whether AI will surpass human intelligence, why Adam believes the singularity will not happen in his lifetime, and the skills founders and engineers will still need in an AI-driven world.
