Upsets Everywhere + John Speraw on the 2028 Olympics and Beyond

What a week of volleyball and we’re not even sure where to start. Texas A&M swept Kentucky, Tennessee stayed hot, Kansas swept TCU and reverse-swept Baylor, Washington won at Wisconsin before getting swept by Minnesota, and Iowa added another twist by taking down UCLA. Hosts Amie Just and Erin Sorensen break down what all of those results actually tell us and more. We also respond to some of your questions and comments: Are we underrating Oregon? Was UCLA really a Top 16 team when it played Nebraska? Who did Purdue anger to get that schedule? And what are the best ways to keep up with scores, schedules and stats across college volleyball? Then, USA Volleyball President and CEO John Speraw joins us for a wide-ranging conversation about the future of volleyball in the United States, the road to LA28, expanding access to the sport, the national-team pipeline and what this moment of unprecedented growth could become. And the timing couldn’t be better: the pools for the 2027 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup were announced the day we recorded, setting up a major international event in the U.S. and Canada (and another important step on the road to the Los Angeles Olympics). Breaking Down the NCAA Top 16 + TCU’s Becca Kelley & Evan Hendrix

The NCAA gave us its first Top 16 reveal of the season and there’s plenty to unpack. Hosts Amie Just and Erin Sorensen break down what the committee told us about the national picture — from Wisconsin sitting at No. 4 with five losses to TCU landing at No. 8 — plus a loaded weekend that included Florida beating Texas, Arizona State’s reverse sweep of Kansas, Baylor sweeping TCU, Indiana taking down Washington and more. We also go beyond the Top 25 and Division I with a nudge from our listeners. Then, TCU’s Becca Kelley and Evan Hendrix join us to talk about becoming one of the most dangerous attacking duos in the country, what’s behind TCU’s emergence on the national stage and what they’re learning from one another along the way. College Volleyball Chaos + Who Belongs in the Top 16?

What a week in college volleyball. SMU earned its flowers with a win over Pitt, Pitt answered in a wild rematch, Nebraska swept Wisconsin for its fifth straight win in the series, Oklahoma swept Texas and Vanderbilt picked up the first Top 5 win in program history in just its second season. Amie Just and Erin Sorensen break down what stood out from a chaotic week before getting into a thoughtful listener question about the gender imbalance in coaching leadership as women’s volleyball continues to grow. NCAA Director of Championships and Alliances Kristin Fasbender joins for an inside look at how the Division I Women’s Volleyball Committee builds its Top 16, what fans should and shouldn’t take from the midseason reveal, how strength of schedule factors into the process and how much can still change before Selection Sunday. We also talk about the continued growth of the NCAA championship, what’s ahead in San Antonio and where Kristin sees the biggest opportunities for women’s volleyball to keep building momentum. 6ZD is presented by Homefield. College Volleyball’s Growing Pains + Taylor Landfair and Allie Sczech

There’s plenty happening around college volleyball this week and some of the biggest conversations have very little to do with wins and losses. Our hosts Amie Just and Erin Sorensen break down the disturbing allegations that preceded Tony Graystone’s dismissal at Texas Tech, Stanford’s exhausting ACC travel schedule and what it says about the realities of conference realignment, and the AVCA’s new spring volleyball event (including a fair question from listeners about where the men’s game fits into the conversation). INTERVIEW: Taylor Landfair and Allie Sczech join us to talk about their next chapter together with the NorCal Rumble, making the jump from college volleyball to the professional game, what they’ve learned since leaving the NCAA and the upcoming MLV Draft. Volleyball’s Growth, Pitt’s Future + ESPN’s Madison Fitzpatrick

The first weekend of conference play delivered plenty to talk about. Hosts Amie Just and Erin Sorensen react to the latest top 25, Olivia Babcock and Blaire Bayless announcing their return to Pitt for 2027, Longwood adding women’s volleyball and more from the week that was. Plus, they follow up on last week’s libero conversation: What exactly is the difference between a libero and a defensive specialist? ESPN’s Madison Fitzpatrick then joins the show to talk about her path from Florida State athlete to broadcaster, what the growth of volleyball looks like from her perspective, covering both volleyball and college football and what has stood out to her about the 2026 season. Madison also sticks around for our favorite things from the week and what we’re watching next. Volleyball at Wrigley Field Was Both Historic and Heartbreaking

We Saw 10 Ranked Teams. Here’s What We Learned.

Hosts Amie Just and Erin Sorensen hit the ground running and covered a lot of volleyball on opening weekend. Literally. Between Arlington, Las Vegas and Sioux Falls, we saw 10 preseason Top 25 teams in person, including Nebraska, Texas, SMU, Florida, Penn State, Creighton, Arizona State, USC, Minnesota and TCU. They compare notes on what stood out, why Creighton looked so different from Saturday to Sunday, what Nebraska showed against Texas and which teams they're still trying to figure out. Amie also breaks down what worked — and what didn't — at Spikes Under the Lights before sharing her conversation with three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings. Plus, a listener question about NIL, revenue sharing and what college volleyball's changing financial landscape could mean for programs without mega-revenue athletic departments. And with another huge weekend ahead, Erin and Amie look toward Chicago, where Penn State, Kentucky, Nebraska and Missouri will take over Wrigley Field.
