VISIBLE

Visible Podcast

VISIBLE is a podcast about the parts of being human that often go unseen. Hosted by Ky Paige, the show explores chronic illness, disability, chronic pain, mental health, invisible conditions, trauma, shame, vulnerability, masking, and the complicated realities we’re often taught to hide. Through deeply personal solo episodes and honest conversations with guests, VISIBLE shines a light on experiences that are frequently misunderstood, stigmatized, minimized, or left unspoken. At its heart, VISIBLE is about the healing power of being witnessed. Not fixing. Not forcing positivity. Not pretending to have everything figured out. Simply being seen, believed, understood, and met with compassion. This is a space for the aliens, the misfits, the spoonies, the people who look “fine” while carrying enormous pain, and anyone who has ever wondered if they were the only one struggling the way they are. Expect difficult conversations alongside humor, hope, playfulness, connection, and the reminder that the things we think separate us may actually be the very things that bring us together. You are not alone. All parts of you are welcome here.

OCD, Chronic Illness and Unexplained Symptoms: Bri's Journey Through Medical Misdiagnosis and Dismissal As A Disabled Mom

In the first guest episode of VISIBLE, host Ky Paige sits down with Bri for an unfiltered conversation about chronic illness, disability, mental health, medical dismissal, and the profound relief of realizing that the experiences you thought you were carrying alone are shared by so many others.Bri opens up about living with OCD and intrusive thoughts since childhood, going undiagnosed until severe postpartum OCD finally gave a name to what she had been experiencing for years. She also shares the evolution of her physical health: seizures, POTS, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, chronic pain, hemiplegic migraines with frightening stroke-like symptoms, and being misdiagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) for five years before learning that her seizure-like episodes were being attributed to convulsive syncope related to POTS.Ky and Bri get into the parts of disability that often remain invisible: masking symptoms, being perceived as healthy while struggling internally, internalized ableism, learning to identify as disabled, using mobility aids, navigating relationships and the fear of being a burden, protecting limited energy, spoon theory, accessibility, motherhood, and the power of finding people who truly understand. At its heart, this conversation is about visibility, community, and learning how to live inside a reality you may never have chosen. It’s about making room for grief and joy at the same time, letting go of the pressure to “fix” yourself, finding meaning without romanticizing suffering, and practicing radical acceptance without abandoning hope.Connect with Ky:Instagram:   / kyupinthesky  TikTok:   / kyupinthesky  Want to be a guest on VISIBLE?Apply here: http://tr.ee/3Rsp3zMedia, partnerships & collaborations: visiblepodcastshow@gmail.comCHAPTERS00:00 Teaser01:39 Welcome to VISIBLE02:18 Meet Bri10:31 OCD, intrusive thoughts & growing up undiagnosed16:38 Postpartum OCD & finally getting a diagnosis27:07 Physical symptoms & the diagnostic journey31:23 Sudden illness, seizures & searching for answers37:34 Misdiagnosed with FND for 5 years43:33 Ehlers-Danlos syndrome45:50 Medical dismissal & doctors who don’t listen55:51 Hemiplegic migraines that mimic a stroke1:08:06 Autism, masking & the cost of appearing “fine”1:31:36 Disability identity & the language we use1:35:47 Mobility aids, wheelchairs & finding freedom1:57:01 Relationships, disability & feeling like a burden2:10:58 Protecting your energy when capacity is limited2:16:34 Spoon theory & pacing2:23:34 Accessibility, accommodations & being believed2:34:46 Disability creators who inspire Bri2:38:26 Motherhood, resilience & finding meaning in disability2:47:01 Purpose, advocacy & building community2:48:46 Where to find Bri online2:55:18 What Bri wants people to understand about disability2:58:40 Radical acceptance & being your “chronically ill bestie”3:00:17 Closing thoughts

Opening Up About Life With Chronic Illness | What It's Like To Live With Pain That No One Can See

On the first episode of the VISIBLE podcast, host Ky Paige introduces the heart and mission behind the show: creating a safe, compassionate space for anyone living with chronic illness, disability, mental health struggles, invisible conditions, or pain that the outside world may never see. Ky opens up about her own experience of moving through life feeling unseen and misunderstood, learning to mask so convincingly that the version of her others see often bears little resemblance to what she is carrying internally. Ky shares the reality of living with debilitating chronic illness and severe chronic pain, and explores what it means to become accustomed to a level of suffering that would be unimaginable to the average person. She reflects on years spent believing that if she just tried hard enough, found the right treatment, or somehow healed herself completely, she could eventually teach other people how to heal too. Receiving a diagnosis of hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome ultimately challenged that belief and transformed her understanding of what her purpose might actually be. Rather than standing at the top of the mountain with all the answers, Ky realized she wants to stand beside people in the middle of their pain - to listen, believe, witness, support, and remind them that they are not alone. Throughout the episode, Ky explores masking, shame, invalidation, perfectionism, fear, mental health, vulnerability, and the profound healing that can happen when our experiences are met with empathy instead of judgment. She shares why talking honestly about illness and struggle is not the same as being negative, and why wanting to be understood is not the same as wanting pity. She also reflects on the power of community, the importance of bringing difficult experiences out of secrecy, and the possibility that many of the things we believe separate us from other people may actually be the very things that thread us together. This introductory episode is a deeply personal exploration of what it means to stop hiding, allow yourself to be seen, and move forward even when the fear has not gone away. VISIBLE is a space for honest conversations about the dark, messy and complicated parts of being human - while still making room for humor, lightness, hope and joy. Above all, this episode is an invitation to anyone who has ever felt like an alien, a misfit, too much, unseen or alone: all parts of you are welcome here.
