    BOCC Breakdown: August 4, 2026

A year of nursing care at the Heritage Home now runs about $115,000, and the road to government help requires spending your life savings down to almost nothing first. That's where this episode begins, and it only gets more interesting from there. The Sublette County Board of County Commissioners' August 4 meeting turned into a study in finite resources: land, money, and patience. We break down the hour-plus showdown over the proposed Skyline Drive trail system inside the designated mule deer migration corridor, where Bill Ames (speaking for the Wyoming Mule Deer Alliance and Muley Fanatic Foundation) and Sublette Trails Association president Ryan Grove both came armed with acreage numbers and biology. Then we look at the striking contrast: minutes later, the board ratified its official comment letter on the Governor's sage grouse executive order revisions, a document with big implications for the county's oil and gas economy, in about twelve seconds with no public discussion of its contents. Also in this episode: Hospital CEO Rex Walk's month-over-month update (the good numbers and the bad), the brutal math of the Medicaid spend-down, a $315,191 federal grant application to keep county roads from literally blowing away, why the county is already organizing for the 2030 Census, a landfill fee waive request that has more hidden costs than you might think, a resident's pointed questions about June's surplus auction, and a 30-year sendoff for ML Baxley of the Sheriff's Office and Unified Fire. The full meeting recording is available at sublettematters.com, so you can check everything you hear against the original.
