This Week at 1300 - Episode 9: 1 John 2 -Knowing Jesus vs. Knowing About Him

Jason and Jonathan welcome listeners to This Week at 1300 from Maple Avenue Christian Church, highlighting the upcoming Thanksgiving Bag Ministry, one of their biggest outreach events, which provided meals to 605 families last year. They’re collecting food and donations for turkeys and urgently need delivery drivers and distribution volunteers for Sunday, November 22, with a mandatory training after service on November 15 due to updated distribution processes; November 8 is the last day to sign up. In their sermon recap from 1 John 2, they discuss how truly knowing Jesus produces obedience, love deepens obedience, and believers must “walk as Jesus walked,” using analogies like Play-Doh molds and growing into oversized boots. They explore 1 John’s context of false teachers and early Gnostic ideas, contrast legalism with gospel-driven obedience (“so that” vs. “because”), and close with a discussion question, prayer, and reminders to sign up and subscribe.00:00 Welcome and Mission00:28 Thanksgiving Bag Outreach01:34 Volunteer Training Details02:25 Sunday Sermon Recap03:07 Knowing Jesus Truly04:41 Play Doh and Boots06:17 Cutting Room Floor06:44 Gnosticism and False Teachers09:59 Been With Jesus12:26 The Hard Question13:31 Grace Versus Legalism16:26 Discussion and Prayer17:39 Closing Announcements

This Week at 1300 - Episode 8: Crafted to Serve One Another

Serve Like Jesus: From Guest to Family | This Week at 1300 (MACC)Jason and Jonathan welcome listeners to This Week at 1300, the podcast of Maple Avenue Christian Church, and highlight MACC’s vision of transforming Christlikeness through connect, grow, serve, and share, focusing on serving. They promote the upcoming Glow event on October 30 from 5:00–7:00 PM at MACC and note it requires the whole church. Using Jesus’ example—especially John 13’s foot-washing—they emphasize serving as the baseline for believers, not just pastors, and explain that every Christian is gifted to build up the church like a body (Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12). They teach that service fuels spiritual growth (James) and call for a family mindset rather than being a guest. Practical challenges include discovering spiritual gifts (via Pastor Christina), serving outside the church, and joining ministries.00:00 Welcome and Vision00:34 Glow Event Preview01:17 Made to Serve02:23 Jesus Washes Feet04:44 Every Member Ministers05:57 Gifts and Purpose07:30 Serving Fuels Growth09:06 Guest vs Family Mindset10:47 Servant Heart Check12:17 Three Practical Challenges14:05 Closing Prayer and Sendoff

This Week at 1300 - Episode 7: Cultivated to Live a Life of Prayer

Jason and Jonathan host Maple Avenue Christian Church’s “This Week at 1300,” sharing MACC’s vision of transforming people into Christ-likeness through connect, grow, serve, and share. They promote the church’s Glow event on October 30 from 5–7 PM, featuring free games, inflatables, candy, and food, as an easy way to invite neighbors and build relationships. The episode focuses on cultivating a life of prayer as relational communication with God, grounded in biblical examples from Psalms, Acts 10, Philippians 4, Matthew 6, John 17, John 15, Acts 6:4, and 1 Corinthians 7:5. They emphasize humility, gratitude, daily dependence, and alignment with God’s will, then offer three challenges: pray using the Lord’s Prayer, tie prayer to daily habits, and pray outwardly for unreached people and the Glow event, closing with a prayer for listeners and the community.00:00 Welcome to MACC Podcast00:36 Glow Event Details01:45 Why Prayer Matters02:12 Biblical Prayer Examples03:47 Prayer Is Relational06:07 Learning to Pray06:24 Lord's Prayer Blueprint08:07 Everyday Prayer Lifestyle09:43 Abide and Stay Connected11:01 Trust and Thanks Model11:43 Three Prayer Challenges14:01 Closing Prayer and Sendoff
