Another Girl's Treasure

The best podcasts are those that cause you to look at something in a way that perhaps you hadn’t before, and Another Girl’s Treasure certainly qualifies. Indeed, this purpose is embedded in the podcast’s name, based on the adage of “One man’s garbage is another girl’s treasure”. Brooke and Mallory do a beautiful job in showing how something that might seem amateurish and silly may actually have some sophisticated concepts and ideas behind it, and that, in many forms of film storytelling, a film’s budget is not necessarily telling of the film’s story quality. A fun exercise: as you listen to Brooke and Mallory describe a movie, think about a modern, big-budget film that is at least marginally similar - and see how the two compare. Brooke and Mallory are finding treasure in low-budget films, while most of the rest of us must contend with big-budget garbage.
