Missionary Van Coker | Colossians 3

The sermon, rooted in Colossians 3, calls believers to a life of intentional spiritual transformation by first confronting internal vices—such as fornication, covetousness, and evil concupiscence—that must be mortified, and then actively putting off external sins like anger, malice, and slander. It emphasizes that true holiness is not achieved through legalism or asceticism, but through a Christ-centered identity where believers are called to set their affections on heavenly things, knowing their life is hidden with Christ. The passage then instructs the church to actively put on godly virtues—compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, long-suffering, and forgiveness—culminating in the supreme command to 'put on charity,' which binds all these qualities together as the mark of spiritual maturity. The tone is both convicting and pastoral, urging self-examination and grace-filled growth, reminding listeners that sanctification is not a natural human effort but a supernatural work of Christ in the believer's life.
