    Why Great Employees Become Struggling Managers

    What happens when someone excels at their job, earns a promotion, and suddenly becomes responsible for leading people without ever being taught how? In this episode, I’m sharing why I created Ashley Scott Media and why developing capable, confident leaders has become so important to me. Drawing from my own experiences as both an employee and a leader, I explore the consequences of promoting people into management without giving them the tools to communicate clearly, provide meaningful feedback, navigate conflict, or develop their teams. The research makes the need clear: managers account for at least 70 percent of the variation in team engagement, yet far too many employees still feel unseen, unsupported, and disconnected at work. This is the leadership gap Ashley Scott Media was created to address—because when one leader grows, the impact can transform an entire organization.

    When Obedience Looks Like Letting Go: Why I Closed PBF

    When something you built with your whole heart comes to an end, it’s easy to believe it failed. But when God is in the midst, nothing is wasted. In this episode, I share the story of founding Powerful, Beautiful, Fierce, a nonprofit organization created to give women of color greater access to mentorship, resources, and belonging—and why I ultimately made the painful decision to close it. I reflect on the loss of my father, becoming my mother’s caregiver, moving home, growing in my faith, and realizing that obedience sometimes requires us to release what once felt like the dream. Closing PBF brought grief and embarrassment, but it also refined my identity, clarified my convictions, and created space for what God was calling me to build next. If you’re questioning whether the end of something meaningful makes it a failure, this episode is for you. Sometimes what feels like an ending is God refining you for what’s next.

    As my 96-year-old grandmother neared the end of her life, I’m reflecting on what it means to lose the final member of an extraordinary generation, and to carry her legacy forward. In this deeply personal episode, I share one of my most treasured memories of Granny, the faith-filled response she gave when I asked if she would miss us, and the comfort of imagining her preparing for an eternal reunion with everyone she has loved and lost. This is a reflection on grief, generational legacy, becoming, and the sacred responsibility of pouring yesterday’s wisdom into tomorrow’s women.
